Chinnara Mela 2008 at Barkur

Chinnara Mela as the very name suggests, festival of tiny tots was  co organized by Shanthivana Trust®, Shri Kshethra Dharmasthala, Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra, Barkur, www.barkuronline.com along with Koodli Shri Janardana Temple, Barkur once again proved out to be grand success with the participation of over 200 tiny tots from 15 Balavadis and Anganavadis around Barkur. Consistently arranged for the 6th year this festival is a platform to perform for the tiny tots in and around Barkur is very well reciprocated by kids, teachers and parents.

Oraganised at the campus of Koodli Shri Janardana Temple, Barkur Chinnara Mela 2008 was presided over by Shrinivasa Shettigar of Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra. Kishore Gonsalves of www.barkuronline.com  inaugurated the festival by lighting the lamps along with the other dignitaries present on the stage after the prayer song sung by tiny tots themselves. K.Sathyanarayana Udupa, Administrator, Koodli Shri Janardana Temple spoke on the occasion and appreciated the organisers for giving an opportunity to the small kids to perform which they wont get usually otherwise. He also suggested the organisers to continue this unique effort and promised all his support. K.K.Nayaka and Ram Bhat Sajangadde were present on the stage. Gururaj Bhat of Swami Vivekananda Samskrithika Kendra conducted the proceedings and Ashok Poojari proposed the vote of thanks.

What followed the stage programme was the 3 hours of sheer delight in the form of dance, music and more dance by over 200 kids in all sizes and dresses. The colorful kids festival left all the audiences wanting for more and they all appreciated the wonderful performances of these tiny tots.

"Nimanni Soirik" by PJ Karugalnade released at Dubai

Pius James D'Souza is a well known name in the field of Konkanni Drama in Barkur. He proved himself to be a finest actor in Barkur during his CYM days by acting in successful dramas like Dadarcho Dada, Bebdyaachi Dhuv etc.

Now Pius James or PJ Karugalnade as he is popularly known, ventured into the field of Konkanni Poetry by releasing his first anthology of poems "Nimanni Soirik".

The debut collection of PJ's poems was released at the anniversary of Daiji Dubai, Konkanni writers forum in Dubai on 28th  March 2008.

Kavitha publication has published P J Karunalgade’s collection of poems,  Sudhir Shetty, COO and general manager of UAE Exchange released his book. Publisher Melvyn Rodrigues and Hemacharya, Convener Daiji Dubai were present on the dais.

The book contains about 50 selected poems of PJ penned over the recent years.

Mayura Flex Prints inaugurated at Brahmavara

Mayura Studios are the household names when it comes  photography in and around Barkur. Started by veteran lens man Stephen Lewis of Barkur, at Saligrama, Mayura, carved a niche for itself in the field of Photography and  spread its wings to Brahmavar and Kallianpur.

Adopting itself to the modern techniques of Photography, Mayura pioneered into digital photography and video solutions for all occasions   around this area and boasts of most modern digital printing technology installed in all the studios.  Their wonderfully mixed, crisply printed and up to date delivered digital photo albums, well edited DVDs are the most sought after in and around Barkur.  So much they are in demand that there are incidents of date and venues of weddings changed just to suite with their busy schedules in the weddings season in the year. They are invited to Bangalore and Mumbai at times by those who know about their skills.

Mayura  Brahmavar is managed by Alwyn Andrade of Moodahadu  is venturing into new era with most modern flex printing by starting a state of the art, first of its kind in the area Digital Flex Printing studio consisting of Wit Color Ultra 720 DPI printer in Barhmavara. Flex banners are much in demand in the area and at present available only at Udupi and Manipal.  The banners will be custom designed and printed at the same spot with minimum time and they also provide, advertising solutions by displaying the printed banners at places of the customer’s choice.

The new studio inaugurated by Mrs. Faustine Andrade in a grand function presided over by K.Jayaprakash Hegde, Ex-Minister and MLA at 10.am at Max Complex in Brahmavara. Rev.Fr.Louis D’Sa, Parish Priest, St.Ann’s Church Thottam, blessed the complex. B.N.Shankara Poojari , Ex President, Jilla Panchayath, lighted the lamps and Baikadi Suprasada Shetty, Lawyer commissioned the new printing machine. Birthi Rajesh Shetty, President, Grama Panchayath, Varamballi, switched on the computers. Prof. K Narayanan , Principal, S.M.S. College, Brahmavara was the chief guest.

Alwyn Andrade Mayura Brahmavara, welcomed the gathering.   Stephen Lewis, of Mayura Saligrama proposed the vote of the thanks.  Prashanth Shetty, conducted the proceedings. Gretta Lewis, Member , Saligrama Town Municipal Corporation, Sujatha Alwyn Andade, Stephen Andrade of Mayura, Kallianpura and others were present at  the occasion.

Lawrence A. Sequeira,(48) Hosala H/O Wilma, S/O Late Victor and Late Theresa Sequeira, Brother of Josephine, Ruby, Dora, Clara,Sr.Shanthi, Edna, Harry and Daphne passed away on 24/03/2008.

Funeral cortege leaves residence at 4 pm on 27th March to St.Peter's Church, Barkur for mass and burial at 4.30 pm.

Pauline Carmine Lewis,(86) Bennekudru, mother of Eugene/Matcel D'Souza (Sasthan), Juliana/Gerry D'Souza (Valencia), Staney/Gretta Lewis, Grand mother of Diana, Louis, Fr.Alwyn, Walty, Doreen, Arun (Sasthan), Jeevan, Raja, Joylene (Valencia), Sydney, Shiney and Sunny (Bennekudru) breathed her last on 24/03/2008.

Funeral cortege leaves residence at 4 pm on 26th March to St.Peter's Church, Barkur for mass and burial at 3.30 pm.

Alcohol De-addiction camp at Barkur.

A week long de-addiction camp for the alcohol addicts was conducted at Moodukeri Shri Venugopalakrsihna Temple, jointly orgnised by Shri kshethra Dhrmasthala Gramabhivraddhi  Yojane, Barkur and Hanehalli Grama Panchayath and Rotary Club, Barkur. From the reports we received, its is believed to be a 100% success as all the addicts joined the club are now born again new human beings free of alcohol addiction!

Rev.Fr.RCM Aranha, Parish Priest Barkur inaugurated the camp and advised the campers to be strong in their will and get free from the clutches of this deadly addiction. B. Shantharama Shetty, President, Barkur Grama Panchayath, presided over the camp inaugural function. B.Ramananda Shetty, President, Hanehalli Grama Panchayath, Savitha D’Souza, District Development Officer, Shri kshethra Dhrmasthala Gramabhivraddhi  Yojane, Jana Jagrathi Vedike, Udupi Zonal President, Ramacahndra B., Brahamavar Zonal President, Santhosh Kumar Hegde,

Kota Zonal President Sathynarayana Udupa and the temple administrator Shankar were present on the occasion.

Venkataramana Bhandarkar welcomed the guests and campers and proposed the vote of thanks.
