Rotary  Barkur continues the tradition….

Keeping up with their tradition of regularly organizing programmes for the betterment of society since its inception, Rotary Club of Barkur organised an awareness programme   jointly with  Education Department, Udupi ,wherein the importance of educating the rural folk was highlighted through a "Yakshagana" "Rudhira Rudra" by Makkala Mela of Mandarthi. 

They also  organised  a  programme at Hanehalli, Barkur in aid of the physically challenged children.  A poor family , where all the 3 children   are physically challenged , was given help and gifts during the occasion.  Rtn. B. M. Bhat  attended  the programme and wished the Barkur unit every success.

Barkur Rotarians visited  the inmates of "Perpetual Help Health Hospital",  Sastan and organised many entertainment  programmes for the senior citizens residing at the Old age home and distributed fruits to them.

Deepotsava at Barkur

Deepotsava festival was celebrated at Barkur on Sunday, 1st  December. Thousands of people visited the famous Sri Kalikamba Temple and offered their poojas.

Sri Vadiraja Acharya, Muktheswara and Sri Gopal Acharya,  Saligrama, Asst. Muktheswara (Administrator) took the prime responsibility and helped the people. The Sri Kalikamba Temple was illuminated beautifully during this occasion.

Aids Awareness Day At Barkur

The aids awareness day was observed at Barkur on Monday,2nd  December jointly organised by Rotary and Govt. Hospital.

An attractive rally was arranged which was flagged off by Dr Gautham of Govt. Hospital Barkur. Rev. Fr. Sylvester D'Souza, Sr Vinutha of May knoll High School, Mr. Vasudeva Rao, Director, N S S , Mr. Ulithaya, Director of N C C and Mr. Staney Pais, President, Rotary and Mr. B.Sudhakar Rao, Secretary were present during the occasion and expressed their views.

Obituary

Anthony Henry (Babu) Sequeira ("Sequeira Sadan", Tatya Tope Road,Voderhobli, Kundapura), Originally from Barkur.

Husband of (late) Judy, father of Anita, Jean, Rita and Anil.
Son of (late) Master Thomas and (late) Remedia Sequeira of Barkur.  Brother of William (Brahmavar), (late) Rev. Fr. Augustine, (late) Theresa, Maxim (Bombay), Felcy (Bangalore), Josephine (Bombay/Barkur), and Edwin (USA).

Died on Wednesday, December 4, 2002, Funeral will take place at Kundapur, on Saturday, December 7, 2002 at 4 p.m.. He was aged 72 years.

PARTICULAR COUNCIL MEETING AT BARKUR

On Sunday, 1st December, Society of St. Vincent De Paul, Barkur hosted the Particular Council (meeting of the  members belonging to 14  Parishes)  meeting.  The meeting  was  initiated  with the Holy Mass, V. Rev. Fr Valerian D'Souza, Episcopal Vicar being the main celebrant. After the Mass, Mr. Patrick D'Silva,  President of Barkur unit welcomed the gathering.  Mr. Fredrick Sequeira, Kallianpur, presented the report of the activities of the particular council. About 15 members were  inducted  to  the society  and  the new members took their oath. 

After the oath taking ceremony  Mr. Denis D'Silva, Manipal, Mr. Raphael  Aranha  (President of Particular Council) expressed  their happiness  towards the activities of the units.

Rev. Fr. Sylvester D'Souza, Parish Priest, Barkur,Mr.Gerald Gonsalves, Vice President,  Barkur,  Mr. N J Saldanha,  Vice President  P. C., Mr. Fredrick Sequeira, Secretary, P. C. also expressed their views on this special occasion.  Mr. Patrick D'Almeida,  Secretary of the Barkur unit    proposed vote of thanks.
