Nrithya Vidushi Sushma Kamath
Nrithya Vidushi Sushma Kamath

In good old days, the fine arts, music, dance, sculpture, painting, medicine or even reading and writing, were reserved to the chosen few, could be the upper class rich Brahmins running big temples and or to the kings and their petty kings.  It could be true to some extent even today. And, if one wants to dance, there are plenty of opportunities.   Sushma Kamath wanted to dance, and her generously blessed father let her dance, the divine dance, dance of the Gods, the Barathanatyam.

SHRI M.V.R.ACHARYA, B.Sc., M.A., B.T.

Many a times we were startled to see some people, who believe and practice that ‘work is worship’, by letter and spirit and their own thirst for knowledge and imparting that knowledge to others is marvelous, irrespective of their advancing age! One such person is our respected Lecturer Shri. M.V.R.Acharya. Yes the term Acharya means teacher or guru, and he is a teacher for almost 50 Years!!

“Sir, I just typed Barkur on Internet, and about 300 ‘Barkur Shastry’ articles surfaced.  I am proud of your achievements! I have a duty to bring out your achievements to the Barkurian school or college students, so that they can emulate you especially in the field of education and research!”  After some dialogue, I managed to obtain a few facts from him.  The point is, ‘Time is precious to Dr. Shastry, and I am glad I could steal a few minutes of him!

It is always remained not only our desire but also earnest effort to present, consistently one Barkurian as 'Personality of the Month'. The team short listed a dozen deserved men and women, but most of these great men / women hesitant, rather so humble, feel they hardly deserve such recognition / publicity. It become very difficult to extract primary data from these people, hence Host of this site find it difficult to keep these widely read web pages vibrant and live. To-days world crave for name and fame but we the Barkurian's shy away from any sort of propaganda for themselves!

Mrs Eugine Quadros
Mrs Eugine Quadros

There was a time, till early 80’s, in our Barkur, the much needed women leadership was derived only from Teachers serving in the local primary Schools. In other words the majority of women though with talents and strengths, confined to four walls… or reached up to Church Parish Council, as part of ruling brigade, rarely raised their voices or opinions.

But today, there are women ICYM Presidents, heads of various social groups, business women, office bearers of Church forums etc. but exceptionally very few in Political fields. One such name very frequently heard was that of Mrs. Eugene Quadros of Hanehalli – a pleasing personality with true concern for less privileged, ready to help anyone irrespective of caste, creed or faith, the brave lady who sailed successfully with caution in the ocean of politics where uncertainties, favoritism, compromise with values, at every step haunt one, to its brim, earned a commendable name and high respects in our circles, for herself.
