‘AMCHEN
BARKUR’ – AN HALF-YEARLY EVALUATION……. Dear Friends, We the ‘Amchen
Barkur’ Web-site team, is
completing 6 months in your service. As you are aware it was on Wednesday, 19th Dec.2001, our
Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Sylvester D’Souza, set rolling this site, on
parish feast day evening, during the inauguration of ICYM Silver Jubilee
year. He wished this to become a unique platform to bring all -
especially the Barkurians, spread over the globe in particular, and
other well-wishers in general, under one umbrella! This is a pet adventure of Shri
Kishore Gonsalves, our host, a versatile computer expert, a talented artist, a rare
blend of writer - poet, well respected in the modern Konkanni world -
who not only visualised this dream site, but made it so popular,
informative today, as it has become a routine affair to most of us, to
visit here every day, to check the various segments. He has explored and
still experimenting, various avenues to make it professional, to the
extent, even others in similar field feel envy of us!!. It is also our
effort to expose most of the hidden talents and writing skills of fellow
Barkurians. As few of you, informed us, certain write-ups
are worthy to read again, speak in volumes to substantiate our claim, of
being part and parcel of a well-organised web site. Hope all of you join
us to say a big thank you, to Kishore
Gonsalves for this wonderful gift!!! In the beginning we had about 15 - 20 visitors, now on an average,
everyday 75 - 85, people find time to open their p.c. and click
us; -
is the barometer to
explain the rest!! Over the period, as many as 50+ people contributed their articles /
messages, big or small, and all of us together, made an attempt to focus
on general utility and subjects of social concern, introduced few
distinct personalities, interesting down memory lane extracts from
veterans, a birds view of Church and history of ICYM, messages from the
Vicar, inculcated curiosity to learn more about the archaeological
monuments / a glimpse at history of ancient Barkur, showcased rare
photographs of land marks, past and present
- to give you a feeling of home away from home, and most
importantly flashed out the latest news to tell you, what is happening
at and around our Barkur. As time and again, we have reminded and expected you, in this
Corner, it is your feed back makes us to innovate, look for newer
perspectives, to include entertaining and educative sections and
document it as ‘an all
informative live magazine or catalogue on our
beloved Barkur’!! At this juncture, we are very proud to
declare that a plan is underway to attract all Barkurians, both to have
a wider readership and quality authors on different subjects. Good number of non-Christian friends also visiting us and appealed
us to take steps at this direction
and promised their co-operation. Further, respecting / adhering to your tastes and preferences, it is
our wish to have a section exclusively to focus on Barkurians
achievements in Mumbai and abroad,
a special page to include introduction
/ contribution of colourful personalities of our town, and a Konkanni
page, and steps will be taken to install, an
‘exhibition
board’ to display all important articles, in the Church
for the convenience of those not having access to
Internet. No doubt, there are lot of things to feel proud while looking at the
path where all of us walked along with this web; we admit honestly there
is always room for improvements. It should be remembered, this a free
service on the part of host, but made him duty bound, to up-date and
alert to be on line irrespective of his personal engagements and
pre-occupations. At times, one feel over exhausted, but it is your
patronising words kept us fairly dedicated in our mission, and on this
occasion sincerely express our heartfelt thanks. It is said, as per statistics, ratio of writers vs. readers is
1:100, in ones mother tongue, and in a foreign language, like English,
we leave it to your imagination…
and we AMCHEN
BARKUR
TEAM utilise this opportunity to say a big thank you to all readers and
more precisely writers of Barkur and neighbouring places, who visit us,
in one voice!!! Let us thank and pray Almighty Lord, to bless all of us to grow in
strength and wish happy, glorious days in future through this medium. Before concluding, let me share an opinion of one well-wisher
hailing from Kundapur – “over
a period of six months, your site on Barkur, reached, knitted and well
received by classes, i.e. elite educated people, settled abroad, but now
it is time to do something to reach masses…..” O.K.
friends, keep visiting us, usher a word of inf. in your circle, make it
a habit to
involve
your web-site / us, during times of joy and family celebrations…and
special events…! With best wishes, On
behalf of ‘Amchen Barkur Web-Team’ & ICYM – Barkur Ex-Members
Committee, |
