A FEW WORDS ON – PEDRUCHI CHAAVI…OUR PARISH NEWS BULLETIN…!! Really after a long interval, we received a copy of latest issue of ‘Pedruchi
Chaavi’ – June - 2002; last publication was in Nov. 2001. It is
fairly long gap, of more than half a year. May be due to financial constraints or pre-occupation of editorial
board, we feel, as promised, the issues find difficult, to go to press
once in three months!! But when we get our copy in our hand, all complaints gets melted,
and all positive aspects stimulate us to say - well done friends, keep going! Coming to various contents, starting from vicar’s message to
co-editor’s concluding passage, or reports on various religious
awakening programmes to social celebrations, every page printed has its
own importance and knitted in a professional manner. About the Contents: The editor and her team rightly deserve appreciation for this
wonderful piece of work, and we the Barkurians far and near say a Big
Thank You. As usual maximum space allocated to ICYM unit and its many fold
activities, followed by Catholic Sabha, Parish Council reports and a
write-up in Kannada on farewell function of our revered teacher of MHPS
Shri Chooda Poojary come out nicely. From the literary angles, poem by Nels, short story Kalo Sankov
interesting. Cover design with photographs attractive. We at’ Amchen Barkur’, felt extremely proud
to see a full-fledged article on this Web site, may be due to this
publicity; our Host says, in these days, our visitors increased. We are thankful to Ms Sophia D’Silva, for her initiatives and the
Editor Sr. Margarita for providing this space Shocking Revelations and Information: Another item caught our attention was the ‘census statistics’. Really our parish have only these many
members, less than a thousand..!! Is there any data available for age
group vis a-vis and number of members – Here too it looks big chunk
comprise of School going children and elders of 60+ It is said the real
strength of the community is reflected in the youth composition i.e. 25
to 50 years!! We feel this is the right time to introspect ourselves and
collectively plan some avenues to induce those interested youngsters to
settle at native place with lucrative employment opportunities, support
up-coming entrepreneurs
to start (self employment) small scale business ventures, patronise
youngsters to go and try for professions like teaching, bank employment
etc. We, request the church, and its various organisations to look into
this and you will definitely agree with us that you have more
responsibility, not only to convince young men, but also try to build up
self-confidence in them and sincerely try to address to their
constraints on their way of permanent settlement at native place. Few Suggestions: We also understand that, organisations like SPA Mumbai, planning to
sponsor one of the forthcoming issues, and people in the Gulf too can
look into next one, followed by others. Let the Editorial Board spell out their plans for the future, and
make it a regular issue not less than FOUR in a calendar year –
preferably, April during Easter, June, feast of our patron St. Peter,
Sept. Feast of Nativity of Blessed virgin Mother Mary and
Dec.co-memorating X’MAS, and parish Feast. Conclusion: When we were young and at Barkur, we didn’t have all such means of
communications like ‘parish magazine’, ‘parish web site’,
computers, to that extent there was no telephone facilities in the
Church. The world is changing and media is bringing all of us together,
let the coming generation make use of these various means to develop
their personalities, and we join you to encourage, its remarkably very
small price could explain its constant need to overachieve in any field. On behalf of ICYM Ex-Members Committee and
Amchen Barkur Team, P.Archibald Furtado,
