PERSONALITY OF THE MONTH -  MR.V.L.ROCHE

The ‘Roche clan’ of Moodahadu, Barkur, always had their crystal clear imprints in social work for years together, starting from elderly late Mr Isaac Roche. The present President of St. Peters Association Barkur- Bombay, Mr Henry Roche, the well-known Capuchin Priest Rev. Fr. Alfred Roche,  the  National High School, Barkur, Teacher of yester years Mr Heddhu Roche,  Secretary of St Peter’s Barkurian’s Association of Bombay of 1950s Mr Louis Roche etc etc….. to mention a few of them.

One of the greatest among them may be Mr V.L.Roche – the personality of the month - in our ‘Amchen Barkur’ web-site, an educationist in its true sense, and a successful civil and engineering works contractor, most deserved man to be conferred the prestigious and highest Rotary honour - Paul Harries Fellow !!!.

Lot of people put in their efforts to have High school in Barkur around 50 odd years back in 1948-49 and Catholics had a major role to play and I heard of, contributions and sacrifices of people like Late John P.Sequeira, Louis D’Lima, Dennis Picardo, J.R.M.Picardo etc. Of late in this sphere the only Catholic name frequently heard was, that of Mr Valerian Ligoury Roche. Being at the helm of Educational Society, he has done a commendable job since 1978 !!!.

Many a times one question bothers me a lot – even after having lots of location and other advantages like full fledged Junior College since 1974, necessary infra-structural facilities, huge and quality students strength etc.why Barkur didn’t had a First Grade College…for so long?   [Now there is Govt College established in the year 1998]

It is said; one good educational institution located in a particular place is worth hundreds of industrial houses and, thousands of students studied in this National Junior College now spread, all over the globe is the proof to this statement.

While congratulating and thanking Mr V.L.Roche, on this special occasion for his contributions to the  Barkurian society and zealous service, we call all right thinking peoples attention towards the following - Now-a-days,  many of our children seeking admission in Schools / Colleges, for general education in our neighbouring Brahmmavar / Udupi, it is just an appeal to people like Mr Roche’s calibre to into this aspect with a positive approach, to introspect any shortcomings within us…?.

On behalf of CYM Ex-members Committee,
