EX-ICYM MEMBER’S BE
A LIGHT AND GUIDE TO THE SOCEITY…
Holy week, preceding ‘Easter celebration’ is over, but in Barkur one more holy week will start from 22nd April – Ordination, First mass, final commitment vows etc.!! Our Parish has given talented priests to our Diocese as well as to the ‘Catholic Church’ as a whole. Two more talented priests join this ‘elite club’ – Johnson Furtado, S.V.D. and Vishal Lobo to our Mangalore Diocese – Also there, Sr. Caroline ( Usha Pinto) making her final vows of her vocation. As read in the news section of our Web, ‘all were ex-CYM members’ and all these three; rightly deserve to be congratulated on this great occasion !! This is also a special moment to thank Almighty and the parents and relatives of these three, chosen ones, in the service of God and men.!! We on behalf of ‘Amchen Barkur’ and ‘ICYM Ex-Members Committee’, take this opportunity to wish them all the very best in their respective fields of service, to give their best to the Society and Church!!. Since,
the Bishop of Mangalore, Most. Rev. Dr. Alloysius P.D’Souza,
is visiting our parish on 23rd April 2002, it is
just a suggestion, to
concerned authorities to put forth the request to send one ‘Assistant
Parish Priest’ to strengthen the hands of our Vicar. There is absolutely no doubt on Rev. Fr. Sylvestor D’Souza’s capabilities, in discharging all responsibilities of socio-religious obligations of the faithful of Barkur, rather we would say, they are better taken care, with a visible positive difference, even though it has put lot of pressure on his shoulders, in this fairly big parish. But, the children and the youth anxiously look for someone who can pay special attention, in this fast developing world and the ICYM – celebrating its Silver Jubilee this year, having lot of plans and programmes, to give them a early start, to co-ordinate and for continued supervision, needs a full time director. As were informed, the proposed construction of ‘Parish Hall’ going to start, Vicar has to take care and make sure the much needed funds should flow, the quality of work can not be compromised and he may have to visit his distant flock to complete this mission, may cost lot of his time and energy.!! In addition to this, we, like-minded people are considering and discussing, certain special proposals for Barkur ( to induce more people to find permanent residence / employment here, details will be communicated, to enthusiastic people on request and to all, at a later stage) needs the involvement, guidance and blessings of Vicar in a very special way. Of course, it may not make a big difference to us elders, if Bishop will not concede to this appeal, but the youngsters are definitely a deprived lot and since they cannot raise this issue on their own, it is the moral responsibility of ‘Parish Council’ to appraise the gravity of this situation , which, we are sure, they do it earnestly!! Our Church has given 30-35 religious people i.e. around 20 priests and good number of nuns, in different denominations and vocations, already made their impact, now serving in different parts of this world, and to encourage more to follow the line, very presence of a talented young priest at Barkur, will play a pivotal role. Almighty, have His plans for future, but as laymen we feel, in the present ‘small family set-up’ both, people opting religious vocation…. and parents encouraging them ……. looks really challenging……! This web-site also wish to introduce, highlight, Barkurian born priests and nuns (including those who are in heavenly abode) their services, in coming days – and on behalf of Host of ‘Amchen Barkur’ it is our request to Fr. Henry C. D’Souza, sfx, to compile the data in this connection and forward the same to us. With regards, On
behalf of CYM – Barkur - Ex-Member’s
Committee, P.
