Dear Friends In the historic town of Barkur, here stands an age old artistic
church, dedicated St. Peter, Apostle of Christ, a place of worship for
Catholic in particular, and the nerve center of Socio-cultural
activities to people of all faiths in general, numbering few thousand
residents. Over the years , this Church promoted welfare schemes, taken
initiative for the community development, especially, women and
children, educated thousands through the schools under its management. Apart from this , it has given birth to various institutions and
organizations in the service of mankind, not only restricted to Barkur,
but qlso in cities like Mumbai, Bangalore and even in Arabian Gulf
Countries. One such name is Indain Catholic Youth Movement , formerly
CYM-Barkur, started in the
year 1976, by Fr.Henry D’Souza , Secretary for Communications,
Catholic Bishops Commission , India,(CBCI) New Delhi, the then Asst.
Parish Priest at Barkur. This year ICYM Barkur is celebrating its Silver Jubilee, and
planning and formalizing various general utility and ambitious plan to
unite all past and present ,members under one umbrella. The Silver Jubilee Committee is working out to
execute various projects to commemorate this historical landmark. To mark this Mega Event the ICYM-SJC has planned 3 days celebration
on 18th , 22nd and 25th of December
2002, which will reflect the past 25 years and the glimpses of the
future, to be attende by distinguished dignitaries , political leaders
and religious heads. An attractive souvenir to commemorate the celebrations will be
published , to include articles on Historical Barkur, the Church of St.
Peter and specially the various activities of ICYM and its colourful
present and past members. So we invite articles, stories from you to be published in this
souvenir to be preserved for the generations to come. We also request
you to contribute by way of advertisements and good wishes to be
published. The rates are published here and we request you to send your
contributions as soon as possible to give you and your firms , the prime
slots in the souvenir.
