MEDICAL CAMP AT HOSALA, BARKUR

Bharathiya Vikas Trust, Manipal (regd) , continuing its alround development of the Hosala Village , Barkur organized a free medical check-up camp at Hosala Higher Primary School. Over 100 people from the village were benefited from the camp as Specialists from K.M.C. Hospital did the check-ups and distributed the free medicines for the needy.

Mrs. Mallika Hegde, Mrs. Norine Lobo and others took the leadership and assisted the Doctors and the villagers.

Bharathiya Vikas Trust has adopted the Hosala Village and taken it under its wing for the complete development and oragnised many programmes  for providing clean drinking water and sanitation facilities. According to the officials of the trust, the second phase of the the cleaning project of the Chowlikeri Tank will be taken up in April this year. Plans are drawn to dig an open well near Hosala Primary School. Last year saw the completion of the first phase of the Chowlikeri Tank project and open well in Achaar Bettu , near Brahma Baidarkala Garadi, Hosala.

REPEAT EXCELLENT  PERFORMANCE BY GOVT. FIRST GRADE COLLEGE, BARKUR…!!

Keeping the track record intact, in the New Year 2003, -   the Barkur College Students team once again won the Trophy with First prize, in the recently held University inter-college competitions, popularly known as ‘COLLEGE BEATS’ in Variety Entertainments category and SMS College, Brahmmavar bagged the Second place.

In the Fashion Show, section, students of Fashion Tech.College, Mangalore, won the First place and Sridevi College of Fashion Designers were close  second.

The organisers were Jaycees Club of Kallianpur and the venue was, Poornaprajna College Auditorium, Udupi.

INTER DISTRICT CRICKET TOURNAMENT

The "HILLS TROPHY",  inter district (Udupi, South Kanara and North Kanara) cricket tournament  organised  by Simhasana Gudde Cricketers of Barkur was held on 25^th   and 26^th   January 2003. The same was  inaugurated by  Sri K. Jayaprakash Hegde, local M L A. The inaugural ceremony  was  presided  over by Rtn. Staney Pais (President,  Rotary)  and  Mrs.  Bharathi R.  Kamath,  Panchayath President, Barkur,  Mr. Govindraj  Hegde, President, Varamballi Panchayath, Mr. Ramesh Bangera, President, Mogaveera Sangha, Barkur and Mr. Rathnakar Shetty,Local Businessman were guests of honor.

The Hills Trophy  and  cash  prize  of  Rs. 10,010.00 , won by Chakravarthi (A) team of Kundapur and  Chakravarthi (B) were the runners , bagged a cash  prize of  Rs. 6,006.00.  In  the semi finals Chakravarthi (A) defeated Udupi City Sports team and Chakravarthi (B) defeated Uppinakote team.

The Valedictory  ceremony was presided over by Mr. Ganesh Kundar. Mr. Shankar Salian,  Mr. B. M. Krishna,  Contractor,  Mr.  Srinivas Shettigar, Industrialist, Mr. Alwyn D'Almeida, President, Rotract Club, Mr.  Rudolf D'Souza, President, Catholic Sabha and Mr. Ullas Shetty,  President, Vaddarse  Panchayath were present during the occasion. Mr. Prashanth  welcomed the gathering and  Mr. Satish S. Amin conducted the proceedings.

The main streets of  Barkur were illuminated beautifully  to give a festive look. Total  36 teams took part in the tournament.

 

REPUBLIC   DAY   CELEBRATIONS

Indian Republic Day celebrated at St.Peter’s Church Barkur in unique manner. The day coincided with the ICYM celebrating its patron Don Bosco’s Feast. Soon after the holy mass concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Sylvester D’Souza and Rev. Fr. Tony Andrade, Mr. jayaprakash Hegde , M.L.A., and Ex-minister hoisted the national flag at the church premises.

The compound wall between the church and the Zilla Panchayat higher Primary School , Kachur, announced by Mr.Hegde on the ICYM 25^th Annual Day celebrations on 18^th Decemeber 2002, out M.L.A.’s local development fund, completed in record time was inaugurated by the M.L.A.

The stage programme that followed the inaugural ceremony was was presided over by Rev.Fr. Silvester D'Souza. Mr P. Devadas,  Head Master,  Z. P.Higher  Primary  School,  Rev.  Fr. Tony  Andrade were the guests of honour. Mr Sunil Shetty,  Contactor was honoured on this occasion for completing  the  construction work in record speed.

Mr Gerald Gonsalves,  Vice President,  St. Peter's  Church, and the Vice President of newly formed  ICYM  Ex  Members' Association  welcomed  the  gathering. Mr Herald D'Souza, President of  Silver Jubilee  Celebrations Committee, ICYM proposed vote of thanks. Miss Divya Furtado, President and Mr Roshan Picardo,  Secretary  conducted  the proceedings.

CONGRATULATIONS - STUDENTS OF BARKUR COLLEGE..!!

During LAW-FEST - 2003 held under aegis of Udupi Vaikunta Bailiga Law College, on 22nd January, 2003, District college level various competitions were conducted in cultural, public speaking, general knowledge, variety entertainments, JAM, etc. Poornaprajna College, Udupi, bagged the overall Champion Trophy.

Government First Grade College, Barkur students team, honored with FIRST PRIZE in variety entertainment catagory.
