KARNATAKA SAHITHYA PARISHAD HIGHLIGHTS THE DEVELOPMENT OF BARKUR AS A TOURIST SPOT

The President of Karnataka Sahithya Parishad, Sri Harikrishna Punaroor has approached the Karnataka Government for the development of Barkur and Bennekudru as tourist spots.

He submitted a document mentioning the historical importance of Barkur to the Government and stressed the Karnataka State Tourism Development Board to act immediately and provide attractive facilities in and around Barkur, to attract a lot of tourists to this place. In his statement he has rightly observed that Barkur which was ruled by the Hoysala and Vijayanagara dynasties have developed Barkur as an important religious centre and constructed 365 temples apart from Basadis. These rulers divided Barkur into 10 keries namely Kotekeri, Baligavara Keri, Manegara Keri, Moodu keri, Patasala keri, Chowli keri, Arasa keri, Bhandara keri, Rangana keri and Hosa keri. He has highlighted the beauty of Bennekudru which is being surrounded by River Sita and the plenty of scope for development of water sports. He approached the tourism department giving the example of the development of the coastal places by the Kerala Government   and urged the Chief Minister asked the Karnataka Government to take interest and requested them to proceed in the  positive direction and develop the coastal places.

Harshith Bags first place in the Essay competition.

Harshith S., a ninth standard student from National Pre University College Barkur won the prestigious first place in the Essay Competition conducted at the International Rotary District 3180 level,  consisting of 104 Rotary Clubs from Mysore, Chamaraja Nagar, Madikeri, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi , Chikmagalore and Hasan District, for the year 2001 and 2002. Harshith stood first in the  12 -15 years old category, for his essay on the subject ,  “Manukulada seveye namma kayaka” (Our purpose is the service of humanity), in Kannada , and received Rs.2000 cash reward.

Harshith S. is the proud son of  Mr. Rama Bhat Sajangadde, Lecturer in English at the N.P.U.College. We all at barkur.com wish Harshith S., all the best in the future. The prize winning essay will be published in the website in couple of days.

 

FEW LATEST HAPPENINGS & DEVELOPMENTS AROUND BARKUR

As the excavation work is full swing at the fort area, near National Jr. College, Dr.Narasimyya, officer-in-charge, gave the clues of his teams findings - a platform as well as base of a spacious house unearthed, likely to be of the Governors residence.

NEW OFFICE BEARERS FOR CATHOLIC SABHA

The general body election  of Catholic Sabha, Barkur unit was held on Sunday, the 12th  March. Mr. William Mark Lewis,  President, Christian Political Forum was present during the  occasion.

Mrs. Eugene Quadros conducted the election of the new office bearers for the year  2002-2003.  The newly  elected office bearers are :

Alina Gift Center opened at Sasthan..

Alina Clinical Laboratory,  Sasthan is a success story of the young enthusiastic man from Barkur, Mr. Ronald Andrade or Roney as he is popularly known. After serving for few years at Gulf, Roney started a clinical laboratory at Sasthan a few years back and the success that followed prompted him to venture into the other possibilities. As a result Alina Gift Center” a religious and fancy gift articles store was inaugurated on the 4th March at Sasthan.

The center was inaugurated by Mrs. Benedicta Andrade, mother of Mr.Ronald.  The parish priest of St. Antony’s Church, Sasthan Rev. Fr. Vincent Martis and Rev. Fr. Johnson of St. Thomas Syrian Church Sasthan blessed the center. The popular doctors around Sasthan, Dr. Hemanth Kumar, Dr. Usha Hemanth, Dr. K.P. Shetty and Dr.Veena Bhat were among the guests attended the inauguration ceremony. Mrs. And Mr. Ronald Andrade thanked everybody present at the occasion.
