Mary knoll Primary and High Schools shine in the public exams. The results of the Public Exams (7th and 10th) were published recently and the Mary knoll Primary School and Mary knoll High School have yet again proved that they are the frontrunners in the education field . While Mary knoll Primary School got 98 % result with majority of the students passing out with distinction and I Class, Mary knoll High School got 98.4 % result and it was adjudged as the 2nd best school in the Udupi North Zone. ENGLISH MEDIUM HIGH SCHOOL IN BARKUR This is a good news for the parents and the students , as Barkur will have the its own English Medium High School (8th to 10th ) functioning from the forthcoming academic year ,2003 - 2004. The Barkur Education Society which is presently running a primary school, a high school, a junior college, a 1st grade college and an ITI is extending this facility by starting an English medium high school near ITI, Heradi, and is planning to have its own premises near Heradi junction . The society has already acquired 2 acres of land donated by Bhandarakeri Mutt. The society is planning to start an English medium primary school from next year (2004 - 2005). -Herald DSouza PARISH DAY CELEBRATED AT BARKUR Parish day celebrated at Barkur on Sunday, 12th May 2003. The morning Holy Mass concelebrated by Rev.Fr.Silvester D'Souza and Rev. Fr. Pius Menezes (Brother of Mrs. Juliana D'Lima, Nagarmutt, presently serving for Aurangabad Diocese) . After the Mass Rev. Fr. Sylvester D'Souza. P.P. briefed about the importance of "Parish Day" and honoured gurkaars of 8 wards fro Barkur parish. Mr. Arthur Furtado, member of St. Peter's Association, (Barkur) Mumbai , inaugurated the Parish Day. Group games and 10 funny games were conducted to the parishioners and guests after the Mass. The people took part in all the games and the participation was very much encouraging. -Harry DSouza Training Camp for Farmers Shri Harry Sequeira of Barkur, now having a Multi purpose Farm near Herroor, organised a training camp for Farmers. Govt. Agriculture Development Offiicers and Domestic Animal experts of Brahmmavar gave lectures on Dairy, Poultry, Piggary,Fisheries, Flower and Vegetable cultivation which is very profitable. Naik presided over the function. Dr.A.S Kumaraswamy, Dr.T.S.Narakesari,
Shri K.S.Ramesh, Shri Jattanna, Dr.T.J.Ramesh - etc gave useful tips to

categories. News :Secretary, AYA Nagermutt. Python Caught at Barkur...! Recently a Python as found Mr B. Laxminarayana Adiga's (Retd. Teacher, Maryknoll Hr. Pry. School, Barkur) residense at Moddudukere, Barkur. The local people gathered to see the unwanted guest. The Python was about 10 feet in length, was caught by Mr Krishna Adiga, Moodukeri, an expert in catching snakes and shifted to the forest with the help of forest officials. Sequeira passed away Brahmawar,
April 28: Local resident and a businessman, Mr. A. J. M. Sequeira (94)
passed away today. He was well known as Willie Sequeira. Originally Mr.
Sequeira from Barkur, worked
for Hindustan Lever Company in Bombay for several years, resided at
Brahmawar after his retirement from HL. He was
active member of Brahmawar Holy Trinity Church. He leaves behind four
daughters Brahmawara

on Excavations By Dr. B. Jagadeesh Shetty. The excavation work at Barkur, which began on 27th February 2003is being conducted by Dr M. H. Krishna of Indology (Mythic Society), Bangalore and Archaeological Survey of India. The excavation team is headed by Dr Barkur Narasimhaiah, former Superintending Archaeologist of Archaelogical Survey of India. He is assisted by Dr S. G. Samak of Archaeological Survey of India. The excavation team
had been able to unearth the audience hall, kitchen, bathroom and toilet
of the Governors residential complex of the Vijayanagara Period.
Porcelain and pottery pieces and tiles were also noticed here. The excavation here is
expected to throw much light on the growth of urban settlement in
