Souz. One may
get tired of congratulating them, or report about them, but Rotary Club,
Barkur, never seems to stop when it comes to the Service to the Society.
From the inception about 2 years back, they always remained in the
limelight through their untiring service and developmental projects
undertaken and the never say never again attitude, winning accolades and awards all the way.
Under the able leadership of Rtn. Staney Pais and dynamic secretary Rtn.
B. Sudhakar Rao, Rotary Barkur marched ahead to create history within a
span of just 2 years.
Recently
Rotary Barkur attached one more feather to its already crowded cap by
donating furniture worth Rs. 200,000 to the National Pre-University
College, Barkur, in collaboration with Rotary International through
their Matching Grant Project. Rtn.
Pais presided over the furniture handing over function. Mr.V. L. Roche,
President, Barkur Vidyavhivardhini Sangha, Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde, Local
MLA, Rtn. Dr. Sudhakar Nambiar, Assistant Governor, Rotary District 3180
were the chief guests and Mr. B. Sudhakar Rao, Mr. Venkataraman Aithal,

Tony in the news, in America! (Taken
from the 'THE CATHOLIC SPIRIT', VOL 8, No. 17, April 24, 2003, a
Bi-Weekly published by the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minnesota,
U.S.A.)
Fr.
Joseph Anthony Andrade, better known as "Father Tony" became
the U.S. Citizen on 16th April 2003, along with another priest from
India. There were a total
of 614 people from 82 different countries, who took such oath to become
U.S. citizens, at Bethel College, Minnesota, where the citizenship oath
taking ceremony took place. About 42
people, from Fr. Tony's Parish (St. Thomas the Apostle, St. Paul,
Minnesota), attended the oath taking ceremony, by hiring a luxury bus,
at their own expense. This
gesture shows how popular Fr. Tony has become.
Another 50 people joined them at the church for a grand reception
to Fr. Tony to celebrate the occasion. Fr. Tony
credits the help of Joe and Ruth McCarthy (from St. Paul) whom he met in
India, and the then Archbishop John Roach who helped him reach US, and
find a place to stay. It
has been 10 years since Fr. Tony is in St. Paul.
He served as Chaplain at the United Hospital, and then as the
Parish Priest, which position he holds at present.
It gives
us 'Barkur.com' pleasure that we had featured a brief article about his
family, and lately we opened a 'Spiritual Corner to accommodate Fr.
Tony's mass appealing spiritual articles.
Barkur.com congratulates Fr. Tony on his becoming the United
States Citizen, and for not forgetting his roots.
"It takes a village", and Fr. Tony, you are the product
of Barkur, and we are proud of you! Father
Tony says he hopes to obtain Indian dual citizenship eventually, which
shows his respect and gratitude to India, and to Barkur as well. "I
am trying to reach out to priests who are new.
I will go talk to them and offer them some help. I do that
because I have gone through that process myself," says Fr. Tony. -James
Fernandes USA. At last an Assistant Parish Priest at Barkur…. Fr.
Wilfred D’Souza, SVD came to Barkur as assistant priest on 20th
June, thereby filling a years long
void in the parish, and a s relief to the Parish Priest. Hailing
from Nirkan Parish from Bantwal, he was ordained on December 27th
2002. After the ordination he served at
Poona and now arrived at Barkur
parish as Assistant Parish Priest. All the parishioners of Barkur
Parish are much delighted to see the young priest and offer him a
cordial welcome. We all
at barkur.com wish Fr. D’Souza a pleasant stay at Barkur and all the
best for his new assignments.
