Shree Kula Mahastri amma temple, situated on the banks of river sita in Bennekedru-Barkur of Udupi District, is the ‘Kula Devatha’ of thousands of Mogaveera community settled in the undivided district of Dakshina Kannada (including Udupi District), northern part of Kasargod (Kerala State) and other far off places. The temple itself has a history of more than one thousand years. This temple has the profound base of nine generations of “Guru Cult”(Chief Priest or Kula Guru), that came to an end with the demise of it’s last Kula Guru Shri Madhava Mangala Poojary in 1966 and the seat is lying vacant since then.  Worried about the pathetic conditions of  Community as the cessation of Guru Cult has had a devastating effect on the Mogaveera community, and to find a lasting solution to these, elders of  the community and our Managing Committee of Shree Kula Mahastri  Temple has preferred an Astha Mangala Prashna directed towards renovation of Temple, Parivara Daivas, Guru Mutt, etc. Astha Mangala Prashna revealed that ultimate betterment and wellbeing of our entire Community is depending on the betterment of our temple, Guru Mutt, etc. Hence it was decided to renovate the temple (including Pariva Daivas) in line with the established customs and usages spelt out in Shastras and as per instructions that came out of Ashta Mangala Prashna.

Accordingly sanctum –sanctorum (Garbha Griha) will be rebuilt in stone with a copper roof and a plan has already been drawn for all purpose. Included in this plan are : strong and beautiful “Pouli” around the Garba Griha, Hasal and Koliyara Mama parivara daiva, guru Mutt, Venkataramana Temple, dining hall, compound wall, Raja Gopura , bath/rest rooms, toilets and additional land purchase. It is estimated that total project cost would come up to Rs 150 lakhs.
