We will not forget the reception and the treatment extended to us - all ex-members & all Members and their involvement in ICYM activities is a rare scene and a great feeling, keep the good work going, all the best!!! Ivan M.Rebello , Mumbai, P.Archibald Furtado, Muscat. 14/06/2003Thank you Harry for updating the news about the upcoming bridge and the roads in Moodahadu Kudru. Local people are actually progressive minded, whereas now I look a "Armchair Explorer." Keep us informed. James Fernandes , USA , 14/06/2003First of all let us thank Dr.Sheshgiri, and congratulate him being the Personality Of the Month. A man seen, Dr Bairy, Dr. Narayan Shetty, Dr.Mallya, Dr.Bhaskar Shetty and many others as fellow professionals, over the years, not only survived in the field but earned goodwill and cured, helped and motivated thousands. Mr. Archie recalled a most deserving man for this honor. Secondly, I am glad to see worthy discussions on few points I've raised. Thirdly, Rotary of Barker doing wonders, CONGRATULATIONS, and I'm surprised to see why ROTARY OF BARKUR, so slow to recognise this BARKUR WEB-SITE and the people behind this job especially the Host and Sponsors! If they read this message, please treat this as an endorsement and certification to recgnise these people without any further delay. Or e-mail me if I may be of any help. Barkurgar , 14/06/2003Dear Mr. Fernandes, and barkur.com managers, web-browsers, Your suggestions really worthy of implementations, Yes you further pulled the line toed by Archibald in his latest call. I feel the local youngsters or now heard new ICYM president, who took charge, can take initiative, to have a 'correspondence Secretary' being a link with "BARKUR - SITE - BARKUR". We indirectly linked with Barkurian spirit, can wish you all good luck and look for more participation and well-being of the people of this town. M.M.Alvares , 14/06/03.While referring the Mr.James D'Almeida's message, it appears there are many, who really concerned about this site, a healthy and happy development! Coming to keeping the site live,- everybody have to contribute their inputs - for example, to the best of my memory, Mr.James himself come out first time in public to appreciate this site. Now almost 20 long months old site, striving hard, to keep us well informed. Just for instance, I read about Kudru Bridge in this site first and so about Rotary. Still, I am deeply disappointed to miss, 'even a single word by REV.FR.TONY, to make a mention of ST.BARTHOLOMEW' in his acknowledgements. Fine, let me hope, he will come back to respect the feelings of few who shared that of mine. Lastly, it is Mr. Fernandes suggested few steps to reach people of Barkur, are most welcome. With best wishes, Philiph Richard , 14/06/2003.Thank you very much for selecting Dr.U.Seshagiri Rao to be the personality of the month. His is truly the personality at grassroots' level that deserves to be saluted by all Barkurians. Dr.Rao has touched the lives of almost all Barkurians. He may not be the proponent of Computer literacy nor is he a diehard socialist trying to unite the farmers of Barkur with a clarion call `FARMERS OF BARKUR UNITE!' nor does he labour to build roads and bridges. He has tread the remotest pathways in Barkur trying to reach his patients in emergencies. Whatever would be the illness of a patient, one look at his ever-smiling face would bring about cheer to the patients. He not only treated patients with medicine, he also counselled them and helped in alleviating their suffering. In the course of his practice in Barkur, I am sure Dr.Seshagiri Rao has come across various types of people. I wish he could pen down his memoirs in the form of a book; it would be very interesting to read. One of his patients our good old Mr. D'Lima, who was a hypochondriac, once went to Dr.Seshagiri with his servant carrying a huge metal trunk on her head! Doctor was highly puzzled to know why Mr.D'Lima is coming to him with a metal trunk. When doctor learnt the reason, he could not control his amusement! The reason, dear readers, was - Mr.D'Lima's leg was grazed by the corner of the trunk and he wanted doctor to see the trunk before treating him! (with due respects to Mr.D'Lima and no malice meant). Diana - Mumbai , 14/06/2003My sincere thanks to all the viewers and the readers of my first article " Mother Teresa". I appreciate all your support and encouragement to continue to write more articles. very soon you will read another aticle "BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS" as all of us know the need for "PEACE" around the world and in our own communities.World leaders work hard everyday to bring "PEACE" to the troubled nations. let us join our hands in prayers for peace around the world. Thanks agin and God bless you all-- Fr.Tony Andrade , USA, 13/06/2003 Hi Kishoo, While I thank you for the spelndid job you are doing to host this portal sometimes I feel that the response you receive is lukewarm. Of course, Archie is doing a good job keeping the browsers in good spirits but the initial enthusiasm is waning out. The directory is quite vacant - probably no one wants to get in touch? (selfish). Apart from few updates of news at random there is no major development. As for me, every morning I do open the web site and am disappointed. If the funds are short, I am prepared to volunteer to be part of this site but keep the flag float high. Though I opted to live away from Barkur, the love still remains in the roots. Kindly contact me if I be of help in any way. There is much talk about Dr. Fernandes and his plans of uplifting the education. It is a good start and it is our duty to contribute to lift the standard of living, education of our own community who have suffered under the pretext of so called landlord-tenant nexus. Thanks. James D' Almeida, Kuwait, 13/06/2003 As T.V. become a major part of modern life, some predicted that, people may not need to read much as before. However, books, magazines, still fill shelves and integral part of daily life. An educative call by Archie once again to youth and children and the tips, worthy of implementation, and let us read more both for entertainment, knowledge and information. Vincent D'Souza 12/06/2003, We congratulate Sri. Alwyn D'Almeida, Halekody, Barkur for being elected as the President of ICYM Barkur for the year 2003 – 2004. Team Members, Santhegudde Cricketers, Barkur. 11/06/2003Yes, Vincent, GGL, MMA, Barkurgar (guy/gal?) or others: I agree that the issue is that the discussions in Barkur.com are not reaching the Local people. The host Kishoo did make arrangements to display some articles on a bulletin board at the church. (But the mice play, when the cat is away!) Besides the enthusiasm wears out. People give ideas but when it comes to implementation, we have our own priorities, or we question, "What is in there for me?" Any way, we need some volunteers. We want to read more articles, interesting ones too. These articles don't have to be from Barkurians alone! We need some one with a computer, Internet account, a printer or, a copy machine to make copies and display. Selected topics can be printed and displayed on 'Notice Boards' of schools, churches, or temples. This needs supplies, money, time, and dedication. We have to obtain permission to display on any notice boards, and contents may have to be screened for the audience, I suppose, for which someone has to shoulder the job. Well, how to bell the cat? or who will bell the cat? Only way would be to make it a JOB with pay. This is just an idea!! Since this very message does not reach the LOCAL folks, please, you readers have to help in finding a person for this job. (None of my folks in Barkur have a computer, (to my knowledge) nor could I afford to help them with!) This whole thing reminds me of a story I read: A centipede complained to his good friend, the owl that his feet are aching. The intelligent but hungry owl said, "You have far too many legs. If you have less legs, or just four legs like the mouse, you will have very little pain." The centipede asked, "That's the smartest thing I ever heard. Tell me how can I become a mouse?" The owl replied, "Don't bother me with details. I only give IDEAS and make decisions around here, for FREE!" Did you know that the centipede has actually less that 100 legs, even though "Centipede" means 100 legs, that is, cent=100, and pede means leg(s) in Latin? Any volunteers? I do agree, that great progress is made in Barkur. The personal economic growth is visible, for which people work hard. I still visualize Barkur as I left it 40 years ago. Pardon me, for my crude way of measuring wealth, that is, 50 years ago, I could see 2 or three people in long pants and shoes at a Sunday mass, whereas, the recent photographs on this site prove me wrong though. James Fernandes , USA, 11/06/2003.Dear Host, could u please confirm us that, any one is really investigating or studying St Bartholomew and his evangelical work in Canara. I feel instead of asking XYZ, it is better, to approach St Aloysius College history dept. or Dr Fedelius Pinto to research. Otherwise request Fr Dennis D'Sa of Sandesha, to look for someone, which I feel, he will do happily., Don't try to fetch honey, using Stick, not possible. Vincent D'Souza 11/06/2003,Very good, masala makers cooking nice food, keep going, also update other sections of popular likes, if possible plan out a "QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS CORNER" Philiph Richard . 11/06/2003Once again, it is Dr.Gabriel Fernandes, doing his possible best to help poor students in India, especially at Barkur, through his best known scheme ' village to college'. There are well settled Barkurians in India and abroad, who reached to that status with sheer hard work and dedication, the only difference between them / most of us and Dr. Fernandes is, he never forgotten his humble beginning, and his concern for economically poor, not by just talking but by deeds, always makes us to respect him!! We wish all success to your plans and programmes for poor, aspiring higher education, and A Big Thank You!! P. Archibald Furtado 11/06/2003,Whether one's life written on one's palm, I don't know, - but one's palm will be instrumental to learn, earn or mourn in the long journey of Success / failure, - memory lane is an eye opener, publish such items more regularly.
