Your article on Milagres College is worthy by itself! The role of Augustine Dias its physical director, who hails from Barkur, to train and bring the best out of its students in the sports games field also a worthy point u missed, if I have not mistaken!! one admirer and sports lover.

Born in a tiny village (Kudru) raised in Barkur, with a vision to grow, took me to Bombay, then to Abu Dhabi, then on to my dream country, USA. What I have learnt, gained the knowledge and expertise, I am willing to pass on and share with youngsters of today and tomorrow in some subjects which I will announce shortly. Hope there are hundreds of youngsters with a vision for a better tomorrow. Aim High.

The learned panel members, yet to answer Mr. Philiph, but one of his Question namely, TO START AN AWARD TO A BARKURIAN, AS PERSONALITY OF THE YEAR, looks interesting! A small fund may be mobilised, and if not mere citation / a certificate for the good work one doing at Barkur, definitely an encouragement. Is it not premature, to express my views prior to panel to handle the issue..?

One thing is clearly understood, a good teacher always revered and remembered. May it be Chooda Poojary, B.L.N.Adiga, Victor Dias, Cyril Sequeira etc. The writing on the wall testifies, people or likes of Ananta Ganiga, rarely find a place in the hearts of students! Before taking a profession, one should have love and dedication to it, especially, in services like TEACHING, HEALTHCARE, PRIESTHOOD, SOCIAL WORK....! Money matters most, in this material world, that is a reality, we have no option friends, but let us pray Almighty to send best of his creations, be in these divine vocations. I am happy, our site recognise few such distinct people!! With best wishes,

Barkurgaar. 08/10/2003

Few more questions to our panelists as well as our visitors to pick and answer...from Philip Richard...

1.‘At Barkur, Church and Temples not only center of religious activities but it has to play a role in the eco-cultural progress of the area’ – any comments?

2.If you float the idea of awarding “BARKUR.COM PERSON OF THE YEAR”, who is your best choice and why?

3.‘We build walls, not bridges’ what is your opinion as far as secular look of this site?

4.A man is busy at 30, get naughty at 40, at 50 haughty, and lazy at 60 and so on…. then how about a woman.

5.In these days, in Gulf and at Mumbai, Why the Konkani plays / dramas, lost its popularity to musical nites?

Philip Richard.

Wish all barkur.com readers A HAPPY FEAST OF ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISSI. May you all have a special day with prayers and heavenly blessings through this Great servant of God.

Dear barkur.com readers,

I was very touched and overjoyed to know that our Adiga master is adjudged as a personality of the month. It is a rich tribute to a great man with many talents and multifaceted man. I think Mr. James Fernandes have portrayed him very nicely and he richly deserves what he has done for the Mary knoll primary school in education and he is the man for hour of need in many of common man’s ordeals.

I was fortunate to be the student of Adiga master and he taught me science and maths in year 6 or 6th standard. His science knowledge is impeccable and what a learned man he was. Other than Chooda master he was one of my favourite teacher in Mary knoll schools in year 75-76. Those years we had Mr. Victor Dais as our head teacher and 7th standard I had Sr. Alphonsa as our head teacher. The discipline Mr. Dais brought in the school was really memorable and he, Mr. Chooda master and Mr. Adiga master are the architects of Mary knoll Higher primary school. Even though convent sisters try to take their subjects but they were no match to this peer less teachers. They had their own class in teaching. I can remember Mr. Adiga master very distinctly and his punishments. You may consider them as harsh and primitive in the modern generation but they imbibed values and discipline in our lives. Adiga master has his own knack of teaching Maths and Science. Since I knew his punishments very vividly as I was at the receiving end many times. His teaching has given an impetus for me to take an active interest in science and later pursue higher education in medicine and masters in medicine. His classes were very curious and interesting and time just passed away in that period of 45 minutes. He can hold the student’s attention and wondered he was casting a spell on you at that time. He can hold the students spellbound and mesmerise the students with his deep knowledge of science and maths. I came to know that he is very good in mechanical engineering and a good doctor in Ayurvedic medicine only in later years. He nearly cured the eczema of my father that has been festering in his ankle for many years. We are very fortunate to have a teacher of his caliber and ilk in our ranks and faculty in Marko school and we are very indebted to him.

I join with other students to salute him and to tell him that we have treasured those memories in our heart. Mr. Adiga master was no nonsense and very strict with his own children. His eldest son Mr. Shashidhara and Mrs. Nirmala were my classmates and he has not spared his own kids in punishing them severely if they err or do some mischief’s. He was man for all seasons and very straight and without partiality. I can still remember his assembly and the discipline and the patriotic way he used to sing our great Jana Gana Mana with that melodious voice. He used to bring that patriotism with that passionate singing. I knew this, as I was the school people leader for that year. The support and guidance he gave for the tournaments like Kabbaddi and Volleyball is invaluable. He used to assess the opponent’s weakness and give us tips how to take advantage of those weakness in sports. Under his and Chooda master’s leadership we won many tournaments in Barkur and around that area.

Dear Adiga master, you have carved a niche on your own in our hearts. I can only pray that God give you a long healthy retired life and I am sure you will be serving thousands of patients and people in the public. We need people like and it is people like you made Barkur a great place for its education and given a distinct place in history. Once again God bless you and give you long and healthy life in serving the poor and distressed and the needy.

Your old time student,

D. Nagarkar. 03/10/2003
