Fifty years ago, something began in Barkur that was far greater than the formation of just another youth organisation.
In 1976, a small group of 50 young people, inspired by faith, guided by dedicated priests and driven by a desire to serve their parish and community, embarked on a journey that would gradually become part of Barkur's living history.
That journey was CYM Barkur.
Five decades later, the story is still being told.
It lives in the memories of those who attended the very first meetings… in the photographs carefully preserved through the years… in the stage performances, sports, cultural programmes, retreats, conventions and social initiatives… in friendships that survived the passing of decades… and, above all, in the countless lives touched and shaped by the CYM experience.
Now, barkuronline.com opens a special window into that remarkable journey.
As CYM Barkur celebrates its Golden Jubilee – 1976–2026, we are proud to dedicate a special segment to this historic milestone.
But this will not be merely a collection of articles.
It will be a journey through time.
A journey back to the days when everything was new.
A journey through the people who built the movement, the priests and leaders who inspired it, and the generations of youngsters who carried its spirit forward.
A journey through landmark events, unforgettable personalities, rare photographs, treasured memories, achievements, challenges, friendships and turning points that together created the CYM Barkur story.
And because half a century cannot possibly be told in a single chapter, this story will unfold in phases.
From the earliest beginnings to the milestones that followed…
from forgotten photographs to familiar faces…from personal recollections to historic events…from the pioneers of 1976 to the generations that came afterwards…each phase will reveal another piece of the magnificent CYM Barkur mosaic.

The Golden Jubilee is therefore not simply a celebration of 50 years completed.
It is also a celebration of 50 years of memories—and a new beginning for the years yet to come.
And when this fascinating journey reaches its culmination, a special Golden Jubilee Souvenir commemorating CYM Barkur's 1976–2026 journey will be published in January 2027, bringing together the rich collection of articles, photographs, memories, landmark moments and future vision shared during this special year.
