Barkur's Roshan Lobo Clinches Silver at Karnataka State Powerlifting Championship

Mangalore, July 12, 2025 — Roshan Lobo from Hosala Barkur secured a silver medal at the Karnataka State Level Powerlifting Competition held today at the KPTC Sabha Bhavan in Mangalore, adding another accolade to his impressive collection.

The 40-year-old athlete's latest achievement reinforces his position as one of Karnataka's most consistent powerlifting performers, demonstrating the same technical precision that has characterized his remarkable journey from a small-town enthusiast to a celebrated champion.

Rising Through the Ranks

Lobo's powerlifting journey represents determination and excellence from Hosala Barkur, a region not traditionally known for strength sports. His breakthrough came earlier this year at the National Powerlifting Championship in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, where he upgraded his bronze medal to silver, achieving personal bests across squat, bench press, and deadlift.

Prior to today's victory, Lobo had secured silver in the Master-1 Classic Powerlifting competition at the state championships, competing in the 93 kg weight category at K.G.S. Club, Cubbon Park, from April 25-28.

Balancing Act

Despite managing professional obligations overseas, Lobo maintains a meticulously structured training regimen with unwavering focus on recovery. His approach emphasizes technical perfection over raw power, a philosophy that has served him well in high-pressure competition environments.

Local Inspiration

Lobo's achievements serve as inspiration for grassroots athletic development in coastal Karnataka, demonstrating that athletes from smaller towns can compete at the highest levels with proper dedication and structured training.

His recent string of medals — from national bronze to silver, state silver in Master-1 Classic, and today's state-level silver — represents a remarkable period of competitive excellence that continues to inspire the powerlifting community and his hometown of Barkur.
