Under the able guidance and directives of its Correspondent Sri Sreenivas Shettigar, the National Primary School, Hanehalli celebrated Children’s Day on Thursday, 14th November, in a truly memorable and meaningful way. Marking the birth anniversary of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, the school organised a triune celebration comprising Prize Distribution, a Cancer Awareness Session, and a Mega Parents’ Meeting—making the day both enjoyable and educational for students.

The festivities began at 10.15 am, after serving a delicious breakfast to all children, parents, and guests. The formal stage program opened on a devotional note with a soulful prayer song presented by the schoolgirls.

Headmaster Udaya S. Shetty, one of the region’s most respected and versatile teachers, extended a warm and homely welcome, offering fresh roses to the dignitaries as a token of respect.

The ceremonial lighting of the traditional lamp by the school leaders and guests marked the inauguration. On this occasion, the speakers fondly remembered Pandit Nehru, highlighting his immense contribution to nation-building and his deep affection for children.

A special highlight of the day was the awareness talk on Cancer by Dr. Subramanya Shetty, MDS, Professor at Yenapoya Dental College, Mangalore. Addressing parents, he stressed the dangers of junk, stale, and frozen food, and strongly encouraged families—especially in rural settings—to grow their own vegetables as a step toward healthier living. The distinguished guest was later honoured with a traditional shawl and memento.

In the preceding week, the school conducted various cultural, academic, and fun competitions for students. The winners were celebrated with attractive prizes generously sponsored by Alliance Club Barkur, with Teacher Suma presenting the list of achievers. Club President Mr. Sudarshan Shetty, in his crisp message, congratulated all the winners and expressed his joy at associating with young children.

Archibald Furtado, Admin Coordinator of the National Group of Educational Institutions, and Raj Gopal Nambiar, Correspondent of NPUC and NHS, Sadashiva Shetty, Treasurer of Barkur Alliance Club appreciated the dedicated efforts of HM Udaya Shetty and his committed team of teachers in organising such a meaningful programme.

The Presidential Address by Ashok Kumar Shetty, Secretary of Barkur Educational Society, was both witty and thought-provoking. His engaging words sparked curiosity in the young minds and he expressed sincere gratitude to parents for their continued support to the school.

Teacher Navya Latha proposed the vote of thanks. The entire event flowed beautifully under the seamless and graceful compering of Teacher Shailaja.
