Nestled in the heart of Barkur, Maryknoll High School stands as a timeless monument of learning, love, and service. Founded approximately six decades ago by the dedicated Sisters of Charity, this institution was more than just a school — it was a sanctuary of knowledge, a cradle of values, and a second home to generations of young minds.
What began as an exclusive haven for girls blossomed beautifully at its silver jubilee milestone into a co-educational institution, opening its doors to both boys and girls, and thus widening its embrace to the entire community of Barkur.
A Golden Chapter
In the year 2016, Maryknoll High School was adorned with the glory of its Golden Jubilee — fifty magnificent years of shaping futures and nurturing souls. A spirited committee of devoted former students rose to the occasion, channelling their gratitude into action. Through their collective vision and tireless efforts, the school premises were lovingly renovated and restored, standing as a lasting tribute to the institution that shaped them.
The closing of a Sacred Door
As all beautiful journeys must eventually find their rest, the management has, with a heavy heart and for unavoidable reasons, decided to close the school with the conclusion of this academic year. Students have been thoughtfully placed in other institutions, and teachers and staff have been accommodated accordingly, ensuring that no life is left adrift.
Yet, even as the doors close, the memories, the lessons, and the spirit of Maryknoll live on — in every former student who walks with dignity, in every teacher who gave their best years to this beloved school.
A Day of Gratitude
In this poignant moment of farewell, the mlMaryknoll High School Golden Jubilee Committee has lovingly organised a Felicitation Programme to honour the dedicated Headmistress and Teachers who served this institution with unwavering commitment and have since moved on to other schools. This is a small yet heartfelt gesture — a token of deep love and lasting appreciation for those who gave so much of themselves.
