International  Day of Women

International  Day of Women was celebrated by the  Women’s Association at Holy Family Church, Brahmavar.  Rev. Fr.  Peter Mendonca presided over the function.

Chief guests  Mr. Alban Rodrigues , Principal , Dandatheertha P. U. College and Mrs. Veronica Cornelio,  Kemmannu, spoke on the  role of women in  home society and in the politics.

President Mrs. Leena Roche welcomed the gathering and  Janet D’ Souza proposed vote of thanks.  Nancy Lewis conducted the days proceedings. Mrs. Noreen Lobo , Barkur conducted various games and competitions for the participants in the afternoon session.

Renewal workshop for college  teachers at SMS Brahmavar

A  renewal workshop was organised for the Lecturers  from the colleges around Brahmavar  at St.Mary’s Syrian college Brahmavar.  Pro.  Jayakar Chellaraj , retired Principal from Bishop  Haber College,  Tiruchirapalli, and Pro. Mathew C. Ninan Principal , Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar were the resource person for the workshop.

A lot of subjects in improving the role of teachers with changing trends of the modern world were discussed in the workshop.  Rev. Fr. Dr. Ramban N. J. Thomas delivered the inaugural address.  Principal Pro. K. Narayanan explained the purpose of the workshop and expressed his happiness in the role of  the college administration for  oraganising the workshop.  Dr.Ravindranath  and Pro. Shreepada conducted the proceedings  and Dr. K. B. Shivatharak proposed the vote of thanks.

Ollanaadu Mogaveera Samavesha

"The fishing business is in trouble. Every year fishermen have to look forward for the help from the government”  said Ex-MLA Mr. U. R. Sabhapathi . He was speaking as a guest at the “Ollanaadu Mogaveera Samavesha” held at the Shree Durgaparameshwari Kalyana Mantapa , Mandarthi.

Entrepreneur and the president of Bennekudru Shri Kula Mahasthree Amma Temple Renovation committee, Mr. G. Shankar, presided over the conference organised by the “Barkuru Mogaveera Sanyuktha Sabha, Bennekudru”. Another guest at the occasion, Mrs. Sarala Kanchan from State Women Co-operative Board gave a call to united support to the candidates from the community in the forthcoming elections. Taluk Panchayath member Mr. Dhananjay Amin stressed for the unity in the fishermen community.

Mr. Pramod Madhwaraj, President Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, Mr. S. Thimma, President,  Barkuru Mogaveera Sanyuktha Sabha, Ramadas and others were present at the stage as chief guests.

Yakshagana artists Jamadagni Sheena Marakala , M.A. Naik, Molahalli Heriya Naik and Social Activist Mandarthi Koosa Naik were facilitated in the conference. Mr. U. Nagappa Master  introduced the objectives of the conference , Mr. Shankar Saliyan welcomed the gathering and Shri Vishvanath master conducted the days proceedings.

Obituary

Mr. Peter Lewis (Pete), H/O Mrs. Violet Lewis, F/O Pritham and Priyanaka of Moodahadu village passed away suddenly on 25th March. We all at barkuronline.com join the family in their prayers. May his soul rest in peace.

Industrial Sheds at  Barkur

Plots earmarked  near National Junior College for the construction of  28 industrial sheds, in which Mr. B. D. Shetty, President, Barkur Brahmavar Nagarika Vedike  wants to support the people who want to establish small scale industries as well as cottage industries which are eco-friendly in nature.  He is having  various project reports which have less than Rs. 5.00 Lakhs in investment, and the products are altogether new.  Interested persons may contact him and can have the idea/knowledge or a few tips from him. He is  thinking of providing uninterrupted power supply using own transformers and generators and  plans to support transportation and marketing of these finished goods produced in these SSI units.

Nadubeedi Narayana by Rotary, Barkur.

Rotary Club, Barkur successfully staged the play Nadubeedi Narayana by the famous Master Hirannayya and his troupe at the open ground of SMS college Brahamavar  as a fund raising event for its projects. About 1000 people enjoyed the wisecracks and slapstick comedy by the veteran dramatist Master Hirannayya. Rotary Club, Saibarakatte arranged the play Brashtachara at Saibarakatte.

Sthree Shakthi Sanghatane

Sthree Shakthi Sanghatan  ( Organization of women power) Barkur Unit , recently organised  a seminar at Barkur for the Self Help Groups. Mrs. Laxmi Bai from Katpadi , the resource person for the seminar  gave a lot of information to the  40 women participants  about oraganising the self help group for the developments of the individuals. The participants were divided into 2 groups Aradhan and Spandan for the future course of action.
