ICYM Competitions at Barkur

In preparation for the annual celebrations ICYM Barkur unit held various competitions at the church premises on 8th November. Men, women and children whole heartedly participated in these competitions and enjoyed. Pictures speak for themselves.

Daniel Monteiro’s Featherpix-2009 Exhibition at Brahmavar

Daniel Monteiro’s Featherpix-2009 Exhibition at Brahmavar on Nov 8, 9 Featherpix – 2009, birds stamps exhibition by Daniel Monteiro will be held S M S Community Hall, Brahmavar  on November 8 and 9. Exhibition will be held from 10.30 am to 5.00 pm on November 8 and 10.00 am to 4.30 pm on November 9.

PPC, Udupi retired principal Dr N A Madhyastha will inaugurate the exhibition on November  8 at 10.30 am. Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavar principal Prof Mathew C Ninan will be the chief guest and the programme will be presided by S M S Group of Institutions, Brahmavar correspondent Fr L David Crasta.

The exhibition has been jointly organized by St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Youth Association and St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Cathedral, Brahmavar.

47-year-old Monteiro, who hails from Kumaragodi village in the district, is a veteran of 152 philatelic exhibitions so far. Assistant and typist in SMS College, Brahmavar has been pursuing bird watching, philately as birds as his specialization and ornithology as his passion for over two decades now. He has also attended several workshop on environment and philately as resource person and also created wildlife awareness in association with Forest department in Shimoga, Madikeri, Bhadravati, Moodbidri, Karkala and Udupi.  He also contributed write-ups on birds to different newspapers and also in commemorative issues.

These apart, he has also organized district-level exhibition and philately competition for children and public. He is a recipient of several district and state-level awards such as District Rajyotsava Award, Udupi, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan and Mandd Sobhann Asadharan Konkni Vyakti Puraskaar 2009 and APJ Abdul Kalam Award from Janata Sangha Seva Trust,Bangalore to name a few. He has also participated in exhibition outside state and abroad and won many prizes. He has participated in exhibition such as Biopex and Ecopex held in places such as Mumbai, Chennai, Ernakulam, Kolkata and such other places. He has also been part of exhibitions in places such as Bangkok, Singapore, Hongkong and Austria abroad.

New Showroom of Electrical Point in City by Vinod Sequeira Barkur, Inaugurated

The newly opened showroom of Electrical Point, dealing in decorative lights, chandeliers, fans and electrical accessories, located at 'Regal Entry', near Karavali Circle in the city, promoted by Barkurian Vinod Sequeira, Kachur was inaugurated on Monday October 26. The new showroom is spacious, and offers expert guidance for the selection of decorative lights, besides offering discounts on purchases.

Fr Stany B Lobo, parish priest of the Guardian Angel Church, Angelore, blessed and inaugurated the showroom.In his introductory address, H R Alva of Maria Advertisers said that Electrical Point was the first showroom in Mangalore to have offered a wide range of choicest decorative lights for its customers.

Builders' Association president and promoter of Mandavi Builders, Udupi-Manipal, Jerry Vincent Dias, was present on the occasion. In his address, he extended best wishes to every one associated with Electrical Point. "Light plays a very important role in every one's life. Vinod Sequeira had started his business on a small scale. His business has since grown stronger and got well-established. As a result, he has even ventured into Udupi district. May all his dreams come true," he said, while wishing the new showroom a bright future. He hoped that Electrical Point will provide the people of Udupi and surrounding areas with the lights and accessories necessary to spruce up their homes and business concerns as per their individual tastes.

Fr Stany, in his address, expressed his hearty wishes to Vinod for a grand success for his new venture, and said that he would call the people known to him to ask them to visit Electrical Point to get lights and accessories of their choice.

Electrical Point proprietor Vinod welcomed. H R Alva compered the programme and proposed vote of thanks. Electrical Point has launched a mega gift scheme, under which the customers will be issued coupons that will make them eligible to win various prizes. The scheme will be in force from October 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010.
