Rotaract Club at Barkur

Rotaract Club of Barkur  was installed on 22nd July 2002 by Rotary Club, Barkur with Mr. Alwyn D'Almedia as its charter president is making its presence felt in the society by its valuable programmes.

As announced earlier in this site, for the year 2001-2002 the following students of PUC from Barkur Parish are selected for the scholarship from the above fund in consultance with the Parish Priest, Barkur. As usual the scholarship  will be  given on 8^th September after the mass.

A successful workshop on Personality Development

Barkur. August 25. 2002: The workshop organized by The Expressions on the subject of Personality Development through public speaking conducted by Mr. Ronald Olivera was a roaring success. About 100 participants from and around Barkur who attended the workshop were held spellbound by the unique presentation style of the resource person Mr. Olivera.

The workshop was inaugurated by Rev.Fr. Sylvester D’Souza at 9.30 at Mary knoll high school Auditorium. Mr. Praveen Carvalho, President of The Expressions, welcomed the gathering and Mr. Kishore Gonsalve; Cultural Secretary introduced Mr.Olivera to the crowd.

Then Mr.Olivera started with the basics of public speaking, explained the qualities of good public speaker and the effect of public speaking in the development of one’s personality and stressed on the fact that anybody with a willing mind can be good public speaker. He did it in his unique, witty style, boosting the confidence of the participants. Then some of the participants were asked to give a short speech on the subject of their interests and their speeches were evaluated.

Advocate Mr. Shirthady William Pinto who was also present at the workshop said, he was very impressed with the style with which Mr.Olivera conducted the workshop and thanked The Expressions for organizing such a useful and meaningful workshop. Mr. Eric Carvalho, Secretary was the compere of the stage program.

Most of the participants expressed  their happiness with the workshop and said that this has boosted their confidence and are willing to take more opportunities to try Public Speaking with the hints given by Mr. Ronald Olivera.

Speech On Awareness of Law By Shirthady William Pinto

A speech by advocate Mr. Shirthady Wlliam Pinto was organized by Catholic Sabha at St.Peter’s Church , Barkur.  Mr.Pinto addressed the gathering and covered the topic with his humorous style. Mrs. Eugine Quadros presided over the function.

Obituary

Mr. Santan Suares of Halekodi , expired on 19th August. Husband of Mrs.Judith Suares , Mr.Santan Suares was a humble person and helpful. Father of Mrs. Eva/ Dr.Derrick D'Souza UK,  Mrs. Veena/Mr.Vincent Pereira  Mumbai, Fr.Evans D'Souza , Andaman and Mr.Praveen Mumbai.. Funeral cortege leaves the residence at 10 a.m to St.Peter's church cemetary for burial service.

Students Council Pressident...

Mr.Vishal Lawrence D’souza, of Barkur is selected as the President of Students' Council, Milagres College , Kallianapur by the college management. 21year old, son of Mr. Victor.T.D'souza and Mrs. Mary Severene D’Souza, Vishal studied his primary studies at Mary knoll Higher Primary School, Barkur and completed his S.S.L.C at Maryknoll High school, Barkur securing 89% in matriculate exams. Further studied PUC (PCMB), at Milagres Junior College, Kallianpur, where he secured 78% is presently doing his final year BSc Degree. He secured 88% in 2nd year degree exams. Personality Development workshop by The Expressions

The Expressions, is coming up with one more innovative venture in Barkur, by organizing a workshop on "Personality Development Through Public Speaking" on Sunday 25^th  August at Mary knoll High School Auditorium.

The workshop will be conducted by a world class resource person none other than, Mr. Ronald Olivera, Padukone, record time winner of Toast Masters International award. Mr. Olivera , has conducted numerous such workshops all around the world for the benefit of executives, teachers, leaders and students has won record number of trophies in the public speaking competitions in the international level.

The workshop will start at 9 am and is open to all above the age of 16, who have registered with The Expressions before 25^th August. Over 100 participants are expected from Barkur and the neighboring places.

The Expressions, a group of like minded people in and around Barkur, now lead by President Mr. Praveen Carvalho, a young entrepreneur and multitalented dynamic youngster, was shot into fame immediately after its inception by organizing “Expressions 2000” a colorful cultural extravaganza, repeated the success again by organizing yet another cultural fiesta “Sambhram” in February this year.  Speaking to our correspondent Mr.Carvalho expressed his happiness of having one of best public speakers in the world as a resource person to the workshop, and urged the youngsters in and around Barkur to make use of this once in a lifetime opportunity.
