GANESH CHATHURTHI (CHAUTHI) CELEBRATION AT BARKUR

for all the visitors of the site Ganesh Chathurthi is
celebrated in the Temple city of Barkur in a very auspicious way. Temples were decorated beautifully by
using various types of flowers and illuminated attractively and people
were seen visiting the temples since morning itself. Special poojas
were offered in various temples,
prominent among those are: 1. Mahaganapathi
Devasthana, Hoskere, Barkur 2. Batte Vinayaka Devasthana, Kachur, Barkur. Sri Ganeshotsava
Samithi, Barkur has arranged a "Sarvajanika Ganesha Aaradhane
" at Pattabhi Ramachandra Temple, Car Street , Barkur and the
Ganesha Vigraha will be immersed (Ganesha Visarjane) in the tank (kere)
on Saturday, 14th September. Various types of entertainment programmes
are organised from 11th to
13th . Athula Yuvaka Mandala, Heradi, Barkur has also kept "Ganesha Aradhane” at Heradi Higher Primary School, Heradi, Barkur and as per the President of Athula Yuvaka Mandala Mr Sudhakar, they are also organising many types of competitions to the public and entertainment programmes on 11th and the Ganesha Vigraha will be immersed on 12th at Chowlikere, Barkur. -Herald

FEAST CELEBRATIONS AT BARKUR With plates of various size and shape filled with flowers of beautiful colors, neatly dressed children marched like angels from Mr. James Mendonca's house (the place where the "noven" (new harvest paddy crop kept) to St. Peter's Church by singing and showering of flowers decorating the road with colorful flowers. Even though it was raining, the spirit of the procession was not diminished. Sheena's band led the procession with traditional tunes. During this procession lot of Non-Catholics from Barkur, were seen standing in front of their doors wishing the Catholics and joining them on this auspicious day. The Procession started at 8.45 a.m. The leaders carried the statue of the Infant Mary and the "noven" which was blessed by the Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Sylvester D'Souza. The place where the noven was kept was beautifully decorated by the Mendonca family, thanks to Mr. Arthur Mendonsa who came all the way from Mumbai. The procession reached
the Church at 9.10 a.m. After the Holy Mass the prize winners of the
Bible quiz and other scholarship winners were honored. The new issue
of the Parish Bulletin "Pedruchi Chaavi" was released. (For
the parishioners residing outside
Barkur, the same will be posted soon). "Kobu"(sugar cane)
was distributed for the children after the mass. The people left to
their homes where they
had their "noven jevan", vegetarian meals with variety of
vegetables and vorn (payasam). Noon session an
attractive programme was arranged by the ICYM where most of the
children of the Parish participated in competitions namely Bible fancy
dress and Bible skit competitions. About 21 groups participated in
this there by enacting various situations from the Holy Bible. The
parishioners celebrated the feast in a meaningful way. We on behalf of "barkur.com" wish all our visitors very best in the days to come. For

Anirudh Sean Gonsalves of Barkur won the consolation prize in the The Nazreths Konkan Baby contest held online in the popular Konkanni portal www.daijidubai.com (also available as the www.konkandaiz.com) . The contest was open to all the Konakanni speaking people from all over the world and Anirudh is among the 10 consolation prize winners selected from 375 entries received. The first prize of Rs.5000 is won by Gavril Reuben D’Silva of Kuwait. Anirudh Sean is 2
years old grandson of Late Mr. Louis Gonsalves and Mrs. Florine Gonsalves and
