Karaval Milan Dubai (Kallianpur-Kundapur Varado) celebrates "Monthi Fest-02" The celebration of Monthi Fest is truly an event one should enjoy with their relatives, friends, and most importantly with parishioners, especially when you are away from home. The Mangalorean catholics hailing from the west coast of Udupi district came together with the theme "Moriye thuja zalma vela Karaval Milan saangatha mellan" at the Indian Sports Club Dubai on 20th September for the whole day entertainment programme. Began with a prayer song "Namo namo
parameshwara" nicely characterized by well-known singer Rony
Byndoor and supported by Gretta, Naveen, Laveena, Sheela, Gratian
& Eric. Shri Rony Byndoor then gave a brief introduction of the
association and its activities in the past year. Mr. Oswald Cornelio
welcomed the audience and dignitaries present on the occasion. Mr.
Herbert Menezes, Barkur, then gave a brief report of the association
and its activities in the past one and half year. Teens and the adult's alike showed their singing talents one after the other with beautiful numbers like "Luella", "Anthroli Molbar" and many more. A group song specially for the occasion "Konkan maicha mogache" was written by Mr. Pius James D’Souza , Barkur with the music composed by Mrs. Jane Machado. A short felicitation program was held in honor
of the guests Fr. Cyprian D'souza of St. Mary's church, Shri. Francis
Fernandes Cascia, Shri. CGS Takode, Shri. Dayan D'souza Mukamar, Shri.
Walter Nandalike and Shri. Frankie D'souza of Shezan. Speaking on the
occasion Fr. Cyprian wished everyone a grand Monthi Fest and abundant
blessings from Mother Mary. Shri. Dayan D'souza emphasized on the
importance of Mai, Maigaon & Maibhaas and acknowledged Karavali
Milan's support to "Maand Sobhann"- a Konkani cause. Shri
Walter Nandalike briefly acknowledged their support to help strengthen
the community socially as well economically. Shri. CGS takode in his
speech wished the fellow members a grand Monthi Fest. The highlight of the day was the
inauguration of the new Konkanni website "www.maaibhaas.com"
by Shri. Francis Fernandes Cascia. Mr. Naveen Sequiera, Barkur/Brahmavar
who designed this new complete Konkanni language web portal was
present on the occasion. After a short pause, the cultural program
started again with a latest Hindi dance "Dol-a-re" by
Annette & Kate Saldanha. Various other events followed including a
duet song "Dingri dinga" from two small children Clarece
& Clency, solo song from Mr. Rodney, a skit from Mr. Fredrik &
Mr. Oswald, Fancy dress from Mr. Wilson & group, a dance from
Clarece & Clency and a hindi solo song "Dum dum diga diga"
from Mr. Lawrence. A delicious vegetarian luncheon was served at noon with mangalorean delicacy vorn & other mouthwatering dishes. Mr. Rony Byndoor & group with their beautiful baila songs attracted the audience to the center stage and everyone thoroughly enjoyed dancing on the floor. GRAHA" INAUGURATED IN HERADI SCHOOL In an attempt to help the poor students who come to school with great difficulty a noble project to provide free mid day meal, a “bhojana graha" named after Late Lawyer Anand Shetty, was inaugurated by Mr. B.Sudhakar Shetty Managing Director of Vasudha Chemicals, Mumbai . Being an old student of this school Mr. Shetty is helping for the its alround development. The inaugural ceremony
of the "bhojana graha" is presided over by the president of
Barkur Education Society Mr. V L Roche. The distinguished
guests present
were Dr B. M. Somayaji, Mr. B. Shanntharam Shetty, Vice
President of Barkur
Education Society and
the Managing
Director of M/s Unitop, Brahmavar, Mr. Barkur Dharmaraj Shetty.
Mr. B.Chandrashekar Shetty, President of the old students' association
was also present during the occasion. MID DAY MEAL PROGRAMME INAUGURATED AT NATIONAL JUNIOR COLLEGE A
much awaited "mid day meal" project was
inaugurated at
National Junior
College, Barkur on 11th September. The
programme was
launched with the help of Old Students' Association and
Parent Teachers' Association. The inaugural function was presided over by Mr V. L. Roche, President, Barkur Education Society and the programme was inaugurated by Mr.Sudhakar Shetty ,, Managing Director of M/s Vasudha Chemicals Mumbai, by lighting the lamp. Zilla Panchayath member Mr.Bhujanga Shetty, Ex Taluk panchayath member Mr.Shantharama Shetty, Mr.Ramananda Shetty, President, Hanehalli Panchayath and Mr.B.Dharmaraj Shetty ,the Managing Director of M/s Unitop, Brahmavar ,were also present. President of Old Students' Association, as well as Parent Teachers' Assn. Mr. N. Bhojaraj Shetty explained the importance of this scheme and requested the co-operation of the old students and the general public for the success of the project. -Harry D'Souza Obituary Mr. John Mendonca of Hosala St Lawrence Vado expired on 16th September and his funeral was held on 17th September at 4.30 p.m. at St. Peter's Church, Barkur. Mr Mendonsa was a parish council member for the period from 1998 to 2000 and served the Parish in various fields. We pray the Almighty to rest the departed soul in eternal peace. Best Teachers award winners from Barkur Introducing Sr.Mabel Goveas, Sri B. Sudhakar Rao and Sri R. R. Bhandi who won the best teacher awards recently . Sr.Mabel Goveas has been awarded as the best teacher for her sincere efforts which she always rendering. We Brkurians are proud of her since she served in Mary knoll High School, Barkur during the years when our ICYM was celebrating its Decennial Celebration (in the year 1986). She was the Assistant Director and was an encouraging force and under her guidance ICYM has organised various programmes successfully. She was transferred to Nirmala High School, Brahmavar as Head Mistress from Barkur and then moved to Naravi and now she is serving at St. Lawrence High School, Attur, Karkala as Head Mistress where she got the honour of best teacher. Mr. Ramappa Rangappa
Bandi, born on 1.6.1950 at Belagatta of
Sirahatti Taluk in Gadag Dist. completed his education at
Belagatta Hubli, Gadag.
He got his B.Ed at Dharwad. He
joined National Pre University College (N. J. C.) Barkur on 10.11.1980
as Asst. Lecturer and completed unblemished service of 22
years. Apart from teaching he also engaged himself with various other
activities. He is the director for Kannada Sahithya Sangha at
High School Level. He was selected for
the best teacher award at High School level for the year 2001 - 2002 and the
award was delivered to him
during a public function held on the occasion of teachers' day
celebration. A great personality known for his social work and involvement in all types of activities in and around Barker is Mr. Sudhakar Rao who won the prestigious award of "best teacher" in primary section. Mr. Rao born on 4.12.1947 had his primary education at Santhegudde Primary School, Barkur, High School at National High School and finished his college education at Sri Lal Bahadur College, Sagar. Joined Sri Durga Parameshwari Hr. Pri. School, Mandarthi on 30.3.1967 as Asst. Teacher and continued there till 31.3.1979. He served in Sri Durga Parameshwari High School from 01.4.1979 to 30.3.1983 and on 31.3.1983 he joined National higher primary School, Hanehalli as Head Master. Mr. Rao is also
involved himself in many social service activities as the Secretary of Rotary Club of
Barkur, as the Secretary of
Teachers' Association, as
the Director of Teachers' Co-operative
Bank, udupi, Secretary of Old Students' Assn. of National
junior College,
Barkur and in many capacities in other major associations. On behalf of "barkur.com"
