Introducing Ms Stenita Fredrina Lewis

Stenita, is the talented daughter of ace Fotografer Mr.Stephen Lewis & Mrs Gretta Lewis from Barkur, now residing at Saligrama. A student of  9th standard, she is learning Bharatanatyam  from Vidushi Mrs. Bhagirathi and till date she has performed more than 25 stage programmes in and around Udupi district and secured a high first class in Bharathnatyam Junior Examinations. She is also practicing Classical singing . We all at Barkur.com along with our surfers wish Stenita and her parents all the best.

Little Rock Indian School bags the Computer Championship

Student winners along with principal Prof. Mathew C. Nainan, Computer teachers Mr. Saji Thomas and Ms. Sona Maria Fernandes.

Brahmawar, October 29: Little Rock Indian School from Brahmawar bagged International Computer Olympiad Championship at City Montessori School, Lucknow. It showed its upper hand in Information Technology area.  In Computer Quiz and Computer Wiz - Kid competition it came first place.  In this prestigious competition 44 schools from India, Nepal and South Africa took part.

Dr. K . Gangadhar Nambiar Passed away

With profound grief we publish the news of the demise 0f  Dr. K GANGADHAR NAMBIAR on 24.10.2002 at 10.00 p. m. at Omega Hospital , Mangalore.

Dr. K Gangadhar Nambiar had earned name and fame as doctor with his great quality of service and dedication. Everyday patients used to visit him from all over Karnataka and Kerala in hundreds. A great son of Late Dr. Raman Nambiar (Barkur Pandith and Nadi Doctor) was in service as District Medical Officer and after his retirement he was serving the people by opening a dispensary at Heradi junction (Near his residence). He was aged 61. 

As the news of the sad demise spread in Barkur the people with the feeling that they lost a great son of Barkur started visiting his residence to mark respect  and hundreds of people seen visiting his residence since early morning. 

We on behalf of "barkur.com" pray the Almighty to grant peace to the departed soul.

Drinking Water facility inaugurated at Barkur Railway station.

Dr. K.K. Gokhale, Director (Maint), Konkan Railway Corporation , inaugurated the pure fresh drinking water facilty, donated by Shri H.C. Shetty Brothers from Herinje in memory of their mother Herainje Melmane Radhamma Shedthi. Mr. Gokhale inspected the the development and the needs of the passengers at the station and expressed his satisfaction. The Barkur-Brahmavar Nagarika Vedike (Citizens Forum) has already  provided a Televison set, Wheel chair, Platform benches, Flower pots, rain shutters etc. They are planning many more things including a medicinal plants park in the vicinity of the railway station , as per the announcements of the vedike.

Roshan shines in the Power Lifting.  

Mr. Roshan Gabriel Lobo , Son of Mr. Charles and Mrs. Philomena Lobo of Barkur , I year B.Com student of Milagres College Kallianpur won the third place (Bronze) at the Mangalore University Inter Collegiate Power Lifting in the 60 Kg category. Roshan is being trained by Mr. Augustine Arunraj Dias, B.A.,B.Ed.,M.P.Ed.,  Physical Director at Milagres College, also from Barkur.

Rupnnim bags the award from Konkanni Sahithya Academy.

This years Konkanni Sahithya Academy’s literature awards have been announced recently. Shiraap a novel by Stan Ro, Ajekar , Theen Thiaathr a collection of plays bt Mick Max , and Rupnnim a collection of short stories by Kishoo, Barkur , have been selected for this academic honor. Konkanni books published between 01/04/2001 to 31/03/2002 were considered for the honor. The academic announcement said that the dates of honoring the writers  will be announced later.
