Enthusiastic Crowd “ Shine on me father, that I may reflect your light”-a 72 enthusiastic played the game of service directly or indirectly in the march of former 25 years gathered less than one roof sat in a circle at the Mary knoll high school, Barkur. At 8.59 AM after the solemn Calvary commemorate in St. Peter’s Church, Barkur Rev. Fr. Henry D’Souza (CBCI), Rev, Fr. Elias director of I.C.Y.M, Mangalore Diocese, Fr Cyprian Henry D’Souza, Pilar Fathers, I.C.Y.M member, Rev Sr. Mabel Goveas and Mr. Archibald Furtado , Mr. Ivan Rebello at the dais. Mr. Gerald
Gonsalves, Vice President, St Peter’s Church, Barkur and the former
active member of I.C.Y.M welcomed the guests and the gathering. Mr.
Ivan Rebello unfurled the keynote address why and what by sharing with
the members a brief history and its achievement of I.C.Y.M for the
last 25 successful years. Sr. Mabel Goveas Fr.
Elias awakened the enthusiasts to think globally to develop political
and other talents for the future of our community. Later with one
minute silence, the conference began. It was presided over by the Fr.
Cyprian Henry. After much sharing of views, thoughts and opinion the
72 members gave birth to the 3rd child of Barkur youth Ex.
I.C.Y.M members association after CYM and SPA first and second
respectively. Rev. Sr.
Mabel shared her few thoughts and appreciate for all that Barkur was
and presently is. Kudos to I.C.Y.M.
Mr. Eric Soans was the master of ceremony. About 10,000 plus
spot donation towards the association was done which showed the
generosity of the members. During
the discussion an adhoc committee was nominated with other 10 to join
them to share responsibility. Mr. Ivan Rebello and Mr. Archibald
Furtado elected as the President and Secretary of the association
respectively and Mr. Herald D’Souza , Ms. Divya Furtado and Mr.
Kishore Gonsalves took the responsibilities of handling Public
Relations. Mr. Praveen Carvalho elected as the Treasurer, and Mr. Eric
Soans and Mrs. Patricia D'Almeida elected as the Joint- Secretaries. All 72
felt it was a joyful event and moment of glory. Billion cheers to all
present and absent but mere present in spirit. The Evening……. Cold and
misty weather warmed up when the second day evening programme began at
7.15 P.M. at the I.C.Y.M stage St. Peter’s Church, Barkur. The
dazzling eliminated stage bore beauty with Rev. Fr. Valerian D’Souza
Episcopal vicar of Kallianpur and Udupi, Kundapur Varado. Rev Fr.Henry,
the founder of C.Y.M., Rev Fr. Sylvester D’Souza Parish Priest, Mr.
Peter furtado (Vice President SPA), Ivan Rebello, Gerald Gonsalves,
Vice President, St peters Church, Barkur, Mr. Archiebold Furtado,
Mr.Dolfy D’Lima, Rev Sr Mabel, Mr. Praveen Carvalho, Joint Secretary
, SJC, Mrs Norene Lobo & Mrs Eugene Quadros, Ms Divya President of
ICYM Barkur appeared pearls to the shining necklace at the stage. Mr. Herald D'Souza Welcomed the gathering The
President of jubilee committee and former Diocesan ICYM president Mr.
Herald D’Souza welcomed the gathering. The founder director Fr Henry
honored reputed and dedicated members of the public. A brief
report melodiously played to its joyful tune in the voice of Mr.
Praveen Carvalo drew the gathering of 900 audiences to walk and look
with appreciation the path tread for the last 25 years by CYM. “He
came, he saw, he
conquered” said Ex ICYM Association secretary Mr. Archibald,
applying these words from Shakespeare to Fr.Henry D’Souza, read a
well articulated and weighed with vulnerable words read a delightful
“Maann Pothr” and Fr
Valerian, Episcopal Vicar honored Fr.Henry the founder director amidst
a great applaud from the gathering. In his
Address Fr Henry overwhelmed with joy spoke his heart’s contents and
appreciated the generosity and good will of Barkurians. He aptly
patted the back of I.C.Y.M wishing bright future ahead affiliating
Gods constant abiding support to I.C.Y.M. Ex ICYM
association adhoc President Mr. Ivan Rebello thanked Fr. Henry for his
message and gulped to digest with appraisal words that dropped from
the wise lips to ICYM. Present
ICYM Director rev Fr Sylvester remembered his days with AICUF for 25
years accepted his youthful life at 74 and said don’t find faults
with the youth but appreciate positively for their welfare. He
wished to keep the
light burning at St Peter’s Church with oil poured by God, St peter
and Parish Dedicated zealous youth. “ I am
proud to see the efficient talented people in Barkur and on this
stage. Blessings of God when added to the blessings of the founder
leads to a blessed success” Praising the ICYM growth Fr. Valerian
cheered the guests, raised the youth of Barkur to the orbit and added
to the existing stars. As the
dew fell from above on some heads and ears on the gathering so the
dignitaries and reputed persons were honored including Karnataka
Konkani Sahitya Academy Award winner Mr. Kishore Gonsalves,
Mr. Sunil Menezes the writer of the play
“Keppo Cyril”
Mr.
Kishore Gonsalves, Secretary, SJC, thanked everyone in short. Eric
Soans was the lone M.C., fine-tuned the audience althrough the
evening. And the whole evening programme was sponsored by St.
Peter’s Association (Barkur) Mumbai. Mehbooba,
Hoila Hoila the Barkur (Bollyhood) stars danced and sang the beat and
recharged the patient audience to foot-tapping rhythm. The tiny tots
from Mumbai, specially arrived for the occasion, left the audience
spellbound by their scintillating performance. Baby Evita Carvalho,
Anvil Rebello, Ozvine
Rebello , Anrich and Royan were
the scene stealers of
the evening. A
hilarious comedy skit Keppo Cyril written by Mr. Sunil Menezes ,
Nagermutt, enancted to its finest
by ex and present members concluded the day at 11 P.M.

special Correspondant. Konkani Book Awards held Mangalore,
December 22: Karnataka Konkani
Sahithya Academy held their 'Book Awards' ceremony here today for the
year 2001-02 at Canara Girls' High School. Mr. Stanro Ajekar
(Novel-Shiraap), Mr. Mick Max (Drama-Theen Thiyatr), and Mr. Kishoo
Barkur (Short Stories-Rupnnim) were the winners of this prestigious
awards. MLA Mr. Yogish Bhat who presided over the programme
presented these awards to the winners. Dr. William Madtha was the
chief guest. President of KKSA, Rev. Msgr. Alexander Faustin
D'Souza was on the dais. For the development of
Konkani, Konkani Academy is holding several programmes and
experimenting new methods lauded Mr. N. Yogish Bhat in his speech.
Due to graphic media, there are very few left to read printed media,
in these times writers should bring up literature which will attract
readers; they should read more before they start writing then only
they will be able to bring good literature said professor Dr. William
Madtha. On behalf of award winners, Mr. Michael M. D'Souza (Mick Max) said that Konkani writers should have equal vision in their writings like writers in other languages. We should bring good books in Konkani, in this regard, to encourage younger generation Konkani Sahithya Academy will hold a programme in the month of February 2003 and there will be an opportunity for 30 people to take part in this programme said Msgr.
