Pavada Rahasya Bayalu- A unique programme at Barkur.. Our vistors may recall, the discussions we had in our Sandesh (messages page) sometime back about Necromancy and similar issues. Triggered by Mr. Vijay Suvarna from Bahrain, who is a active contributor to our website, the subject was successful in getting response from from many of our vistors and ended with a promise from Mr. Suvarna himself. True to his words , Mr. Vijay now on a holiday at the native place , has swung into action by organsing a programme at Gurudeva Bhavana , Shivagiri Kshetra at Barkur. Aptly titled “Pavada Rahasya Bayalu” the programme is aimed at unveiling the secrets behind so called supernatural phenomenon like creating things out of thin air, psychic surgery , fire on water, withstanding pains etc. The resource person for the programme is none other than Pro. Raveendra Nayak from Mangalore who is crusader against the blind beliefs prevailing in our society. The
programme is scheduled at 3 pm on 13th July at the said
premises and is open for all and Mr. Suvarna invite all our visitors and
residents of Barkur to witness this unique opportunity. We all
at Barkur.com congratulate Mr. Vijay on this occasion for his social
concerns and wish him all the success in his venture. PATRON'S FEAST CELEBRATIONS AT BARKUR The

PETER’S FEAST IS CELEBRATED IN MUMBAI St.Peter’s
Association (Barkur) Mumbai, has been traditionally celebrating the
feast of our great Patron Saint `St.Peter’ on a Sunday following 29th
June, the actual feast day, by offering a Special Thanksgiving Mass and
a get-together of the families of the Association’s core group
members. This year, 29th June being a Sunday, the Association
celebrated the feast on the actual feast day. A
thanks-giving mass was offered in honour of our Patron Saint `St.Peter’,
in the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Vidyavihar, Mumbai, at 9 a.m. on
Sunday 29th June. Right from the morning of Sunday there was
heavy downpour and the low-lying areas of Kurla and Vidyavihar were
flooded, reminiscent of the
flooding in Barkur during the parish feast. Despite the heavy rains and
floods, about a hundred people attended the celebrations. After
the mass, we met at the same parish hall for a get-together. The program
took off with a small prayer to St.Peter and singing of the hymn (Sant
Pedru Mogala…..) All prayer and nothing to eat?
It cannot be! Beakfast of Chicken Rolls and Hot tea was served
which was really welcomed by all, since people had come from far off places in the pouring
rains without any breakfast. Breakfast
over, the Committee had a brief meeting to apprise the members about the
activities of the Association. Mr.Henry Roche, President welcomed the
guests, Ivan Rebello, the Secretary welcomed new entrants to the
Committee.Sydney Lewis – Bennekudru, Allen Crasto - Hosala and Naveen
Dias – Hanehalli who are presently in Mumbai and exhorted the young
entrants to help in making the Association more vibrant and acquaint
themselves well, to carry on the mantel of the Association in the
future. Ivan informed
briefly about the charitable activities of the Association like donating
school uniforms to the children of
Maryknoll Primary School in Barkur, defraying the expenses of
having a teacher in the same school for teaching English, giving aid to
needy members to meet urgent medical expenses, etc. Ivan also requested
co-operation from all the members to hold annual entertainment program,
which not only helps in fund raising for various charities, but also
helps in bringing together people of Barkur settled in Mumbai, and
requested the members present to come up with suggestions. People came
up with various suggestions which was summed up by Vice President Peter
Furtado and was tentatively decided to have a mixed program of Konkann
Orchestra and Hindi Mimicry during Diwali Holidays. Ivan Soares gave a
vote of thanks and concluded the meeting. Merriment
followed by some young kids singing Konkann songs with soul-stirring
lyrics, people singing songs with catchy tunes, playing
a game of Housie, etc.. A sumptuous meal of Sannas, Pork,
Chicken, Pulav, Vegetables, etc was served, finishing off
with boondi laddus. A very welcome point to be noted – no
alcohol was served which helped in keeping everyone sober! The famous `Laudate’
was sung as a grand finale and thus the celebrations ended with people
leaving the place with heavy hearts and heavy stomachs too! Budan Saaheb laid to rest...
