Dear Patrick Anthony Andrade,

Congratulations on your first holy communion day. May the Lord bless you everyday and walk with you each day of your life. We assure you our humble prayers. Happy to see you standing in front of the altar of the Lord in our wonderful church of St. Peter's the Apostle in Barkur with your proud parents, Anthony Ronald Andrade and Sharmila Andrade, grand mother Benny teacher, sister Resha. God bless you all.

Best wishes from your entire Andrade family, Father Uncle (Fr. Tony Andrade) and the parishioners of St. Thomas the Apostle in St. Paul MN (USA).08/11/2006

Yes, MM Alvares. There is no money without prayer, and there are no prayer houses without money. Most of us pray for money anyway, and you have to PAY even to PRAY! How did the cushioned pews came about? When one looses a job, one remembers to pray for a job, and then for a better job. Yes, I know! When one looses his health one remembers to pray for better health, and you need money to buy medicines, as simple as that, I know this too! Even an idiot knows this, right? When it's dark I used to light a chimney. I didn't need a chimney during day time, as simple as that?

I heard a teenager say, "I love my daddy. I talk to him all the time, not just on Father's day! I called him, many times, for rent, credit card bills, car payment, to fix flat tyre, to take my dog for walk and to pay for all these phone call bills. We should keep in touch with our parents all the time! Not just on Thanksgiving or Mother's day."

I asked "How is your Daddy?"

"I Don't know!"

Happy to see  so many people are still attached to Barkur even after being away from Barkur  for so many years. I’m also a die-hard Barkurian.  A piece of suggestion to Mr. Kishoo: Please try to register as many Barkurians on this site as a database so that we can meet old friends.

Barkur Swarnalatha Gopalkrishna Kamath, 04/11/2006

(We have our directory section open for all the visitors to send their contact information. We will update the section as and when we receive the info.-Kishoo)

No one deny the fact that the frequency of updates in various sections of the site to be improved. Nevertheless, Fr. Tony and Mr. Eisen keep two folders fresh - of course, both money and religion are very important in our day today life. Thanks to all...

Felciana D'Silva, Kuwait, 04/11/2006

Thanks to Anthony Ronald Andrade and Anthony D'Souza of Barkur for their  article on problems of High Blood Pressure and how to prevent it. Mr. D'Souza has done a very good job in translating the article in Kananda. The author of the article Mr. Andrade, who is a Microbiologist and has a Clinical Lab in Sastan, has written it in Konkani and I believe it was published in "Divo" and 'Raknno' our Konkani weekly newspapers.

For the benefit  of our Barkuronline.com web site viewers this article was translated in Kananda so  all  Barkurians and others  from state of Karanataka and who know how to read and write Kananda may read it. I appreciate Mr. D'Souza and recognize the  wonderful talents God has given him. He is using those talents for the good of others. This article also shows how Anthony D'souza has kept up his Love for the language he learned in school. He is a classic example for all of us who are away from our hometown as there is tendency to forget our mother tongue and adapt a foreign language.  Let us make sure we don't forget the languages we learned when we were in school and spoken back home in our Mother India.

Is it true that each temple was allotted to a custodian/priest to take of the daily pooja in each temple, for which the custodian was given a little land/rice farm, the produce of which was intended to support the maintenance of each temple thereof?

Folks don't kill me for this, because, I did hear such a thing when I was perhaps 7 year old, in Barkur. But then, I really wonder whether there were 365 priests/families to take care of these 365 temples.

Some children double their ancestor’s property by adding to it, and some squander and become paupers and walk about with bowls, and some inherit all the property by obtaining signatures from parents at death bed, which is not at illegal of course!

Only consolation is, that, "What goes around, comes around." Ha, how sweet and easy it is to kick a lame dog, BUT is it OK folks?

Hi

I am happy to be a Barkurian, coz we have people in big business in all over the world from Barkur who have made their own identity.........

I would be very happy if you would try to set more pictures of all events held in Barkur.......and also update the information of the people in personality of the month coz the information about them is quiet old like Mr.Shantharam Shetty........I hope you will do the needful......

Barkurian, 25/10/2006

Hi Barkur,

Its good to see and read about Barkur. Barkur is a place which I can never forget in my life. I spent my golden years of life over there.

I mean to say I did my graduation at Smt, Rukmini Shedthy College. I must say my life changed after stepping to Barkur. All credits to change my life goes to Dr.Nikethan my best lecturer. Then the Principal Rajshekar Shetty, oh I would do mistake if I do not mention Mr Ganesh Pai. All these people made me what I am today.

Being in Infosys sitting at Bangalore I always think of my Barkur. I want my Barkur to be a famous place. It is a historical place. But I must say it is not taken care of .

I request the young people of Barkur to create awareness and get back the glory of Vijayanagara period. Just take the example of Peru in South America. How people found out the forgotten Inca land and made it world famous, the Maria lines over there are among the wonders of the world.

So let’s rise youngsters. Make our Barkur a famous place. Love,

Joseph Rudolph Monis, Bangalore, 23/10/2006

We often hear, "The grass is greener on the other side." "Yes, because it's well fertilized, well watered and maintained. By the way, it needs more frequent mowing!" Any comments folks?

I am proud to hear that the grass in Barkur is far greener than in any other place!

While going through the latest article online, by Kishore in popular Mai-Bhas pages titled  Sex, Internet and Children, I sincerely feel that the same must be read by today’s parents.

While thanking veteran writer for his due concern for the coming generation, his tips to educate teenagers by handling them with care are need of the day. Surely the present children know much to handle magic box called Computer than laymen like many of us. Thanks once again,

Nice, very very nice indeed. I have been coming to Barkur once a year all my life. My grand father’s house is in front of Kathale Basadi. Being a history buff I always would try to catch up with whats what in Barkur (have not covered much though). In fact my nephews are now playing guides for my endeavor!!!

But what truly baffled me is the quality of what I’ am seeing, both of people and the website,  helping hands to this town is never far of if the right people ask to achieve it. And if some of the people who have written in the message board gang up , a lot of things are possible towards community service to the place.
