Q n A Part 6  Philip Richard and John GonsalveS

First Holy Communion celebrated at  St. Peter the Apostle Church in Barkur

Kevon receives Holy Communion joyfully and celebrates with his Parents.

Sunday, May 10th, was a wonderful day in my home parish of St. Peter the Apostle in Barkur. Yes indeed, it was a day of many blessings as we celebrated international “Mother’s Day” also.

My little friend Kevon Pais made his First Holy Communion that day and joyfully received Holy Communion from the hands of Rev. Fr. Remigius Aranha, our parish priest. He was well prepared for this great day and patiently waited for his beloved Father to arrive home from Dubai to be with him and his Mother. When I was home on vacation I saw Kevon and his older brother, Kelron, come for daily mass on weekdays and Kelron often offered to serve as altar boy.

Kevon wants to make sure he receives a blessing from each of the priests, who are sons of the parish and who are presently serving within the country or in a foreign land. Although we are on our vacation but we go for the daily mass and Kevon come to us asking for the blessings.

I admire these two wonderful boy’s devotion to the Holy Eucharist. I certainly give lots of credit to their Mother, Irene Pais, who also attends daily mass with her sons. Last year at the Parish Council election Irene was chosen to serve as the Parish Council Secretary of our Church of St. Peter the Apostle in Barkur.

On behalf of my parish community of St. Thomas the Apostle in St. Paul. MN. (USA) and the Barkuronline.com webmaster Kishoo Gonsalves and the entire team I congratulate my little friend Kevon Pais and assure him of my prayerful love and blessings.

As per the final reports available, the Congress has bagged 206 seats in the Lok Sabha polls and its allies 56, taking the UPA tally to 262 in the 545-member Lok Sabha. Now, the UPA needs just 11 more seats to touch the magic figure of 272 required for a majority on the floor of the house.

Overall, the tally of seats chalked up by the major players in India 's political theatre tells only part of the story of the huge changes that have taken place over the last five years. It does not reveal, for instance, that the Congress has gained over 2% in vote share to reach 28.6%, while the BJP has dropped almost 3.5% to reach 18.8%. In other words, the gap between the big two, which was wafer thin till 1999 has now reached almost 10%.

Udupi - Chikmagalur

Winner: D V Sadananda Gowda

Votes polled: 401441

Runner up: K Jayaprakash Hegde (Cong)

Votes polled: 374423

2nd Runner up: Radha Sundaresh (CPI)

Votes polled: 24991

Victory margin: 27018

In an overwhelming vote for stability, Congress and its UPA allies on Saturday scored a stunning win in the Lok Sabha polls humbling BJP and the Left parties to race close to an absolute majority. The Congress-led UPA is all set to win about 257 seats in the 543-member Lok Sabha in the General Elections 2009.

UPA thus needs about 12 seats to cross the half-way mark, a task that it can easily achieve without having to seek the support from the troublesome Left parties who have lost more than half their strength and are projected to win only 24 seats.

The result is out. Verdict is clear. Congress all set to form and lead the Government at the centre. BJP repeated its performance in Karnataka winning 19/28 seats. In other words, when the country shown its faith in Congress, Kannadiga’s opted to send its MP’s to Opposition benches!!! Congratulations, all winners!!!

Just 6 out of 28 in Dharm Singh, Mallikarjuna Kharge, S. Vishvanath, Muniyappa, Veerappa Moily, Dhruv Narayan  you have added responsibility – of course, indications are ripe, three of you will get cabinet berth – please work for the unity of the nation, and prosperity of its people and safeguard the interest of the state in the federal set up.

Congressmen need not get frustrated, work on refurbishing the party image, it will not take long time to change the minds of people……State BJP lead Govt. enjoys comfortable majority, but under current shows lot of dissidence within its rank and file…..Forthcoming District / Village Panchayat local body elections are the excellent opportunities to bounce back…..

Happy Anniversary

Elizabeth and William

Dear Elizabeth and William,

wishing you both happy and blessed 1st Wedding Anniversary. May almighty God bless both of you and all your dreams come true. From,

Isabella, Jonathan, Jeff and Janis Moraes.,USA,16/05/2009

Suspense prevails, till the last vote cast is counted on 16/05/09.BJP if so confident would not have mobilized all its strength to ensure its candidates win, as it is prestige issue for them… In fact Congress gave a fitting fight, in both M'lore & Udupi. As predicted Udupi may be grabbed by BJP and M'lore likely to keep its faith in Congress this time. Jayaprakash Hegde, is a dark horse, in Udupi Chickmagalore given sleepless nights to BJP…..

On the contrary if both goes to either of the same party  i.e. BJP OR CONGRESS - lot of heart burning in both camps, may lead to disappointment and frustration....hope this in turn should not pave way for yet another civil unrest in the coastal districts. There are roomers making rounds - if BJP gets less than 18 – the figure what they got last time, CM Yeddi's chair will be shaky....if more he will be the supreme commander!!!

If congress & JDS together get 50% or more number of total 28 seats, there is a likelihood of state Govt will be destabilized, may be toppled by some disgruntled BJP elements led by Ananthkumar or Reddy’s of Bellary....Betting on expected result, specially in Karnataka, this time too risky, at this moment....as there no wave, serious issue, but the personality of the candidate, his party, to a certain extent caste or religion has some bearing on the ultimate outcome……….!!!!

Condolences

Dear Harry Baba and family,

It is indeed a great loss in your family to miss such a wonderful person. But we pray to the Almighty to give you all the grace and support to forgo this loss. May the Almighty God our creator give him

Eternal rest and peace in his heavenly abode.

Deepak, Fareena, Denora and Darren Sequeira, Kallainpur / Abu Dhabi .

Dear Grace, Mr Pinto, Richard and dear Harry/Shaila,

- It was sad to hear the demise of your Dad Mr Baptist D’Souza. He led a life of honor, righteousness and honest. May his soul rest in peace. In this trying times may God give you enough courage, fortitude to bear this loss. I know no amount of consoling words will heal those wounds, but these messages will give you some courage to bear this loss. He led a long, productive and dignified life. I can say he lived his life to the hilt. He has played his innings to the satisfaction of all people and before God.

After his retired life, he has done a lot of social service and charity to our Vado and to Barkur. We were proud to have you as leader who inspired us in our childhood and youth. I can say you were a true leader, motivator and had the qualities to lift us up even in our moments of despair, panic and sorrows. I felt you served as a Gurkar and brought a revolution and winds of change in your time as Gurkar. I think our Nagarmatt/Pandeshwar has seen a sea change during your time as Gurkar. You are a man who is there in others needs and distress and a great counselor and had the ability to bring the best out of the youth and children. I salute you and may the God give you his heavenly abode to rest and give everlasting life in heaven. You were one of our time stalwarts and one of the OAP ( old age pensioner) living until other day. We can not get you out of our head and that is legacy you have left behind.

Dear Harry, Grace and Richard, you will be his proud children today and no one can fill the void created by his demise. I am sure it is hard to fill his large shoes but Harry you are doing a wonderful job and I hope we will see more social work from your hands and you will emulate your illustrious father. Once again myself, my family, my brothers and sisters will bid adieu to the departed soul and may his soul rest in peace. With heartfelt condolences,

Derick,Eva and kids, UK, Annie Vaz and family,Barkur ,Mike Peter D’Souza and family, Mumbai, Nelly D’Souza and family, Mumbai, Norman DSouza and family, Mumbai, Sophia DSouza and family, Mumbai, Clara Olivera and family ,Mumbai.

We are deeply saddened by the demise of our loving Batti bappu. Fondly remember his qualities that he has displayed through out his life, as a community leader, social worker, head of the family which certainly must have been inspiration to many. We will surely miss his sense of humour, kind talk, and supportive gesture and encouraging words. Shabhas (well done) is the word I believe no one who has come into his contact has missed to hear from him.

Dear Harry, Shaila, Richard, Gracy bai and all family members, we extend our heartfelt condolences at these sad moments. We pray that God Almighty grant you strength and consolation to bear this loss and grant him eternal rest. May his soul rest in peace.

An old lady suddenly became blind. Though she had spent a lot of money on medicines she did not get cured.

At last there came a doctor called Danbad who said he would cure her if she gave him a large sum of money. She said she would give him the money when she was cured.

So the doctor came every day to treat her.

But the doctor was not sure of himself.  Believing, that the lady will never see again, and he might not get paid at all, every day he took away something or other belonging to the old lady, first the boxes, then the chairs, then even the tables, and her chicken too, and her flower pots as well. But he went on treating the lady, with his medicines and she was cured somehow.

"Now," said the doctor, "give me my money."

"I won't" said the lady.

So the doctor took her to court.

But the lady told the judge: "I told the doctor I would pay him when I could see well. But I cannot see properly. Before I was blind I could see tables and chairs and boxes in my house. Now I can see only bare walls. So I am not completely cured."

The (intelligenti pauca) smart judge understood and smiled.

"Dr. Danbad," he said, "unless you can make the lady see all her furniture and things she shall not pay you."  That night the doctor went and quietly put back all the things he had taken from the lady's house.

You see folks, all of us have the ability, but we lack self confidence!   Yes, even crap has its value: makes very good fertilizer for plants.

Why the rich girls don’t marry poor boys?”

In  my view , not all the girls follow this, but approx 75 to 80% are in this category . In my opinion nobody is willing to lower their life style . For those who are from a well off family its very difficult to adjust with a poor family. For some it’s a question of prestige, false or whatever . More over the parents will not like to give their daughter to a poor fella (Dooda Mhovaan vadayillea chedwaak  paije nees nathllea chedyaak deenvk jaatha???)

Parents always look for boys richer than them. Nobody wish their children to suffer in their life. Rich girls marry poor boys and lead good life only in movies but hardly in in real life .......

So all the eligible boys out there, get yourself good education and decent jobs with fat pay checks…

Registration at First Grade.

Folks, that’s enough, I suppose to convey my message.

Even today, literally, the dadaas, and mammaas wish their babaas, in some sites, as if none of them had gone thru the namakarana/baptismal ceremony.  Thanks folks.

The webmaster would not know unless the proper names are provided.

Well, Feliciana, if basic bio-data is provided, we could write about anyone as desired by you!  You see Felciana, if I had bottle fed and changed the home made diapers of all those great Barkurians, I would have known their DOBs, graduation dates, incomes, and especially their contribution to fellow Barkurians.

By the way folks, “Why the rich girls don’t marry poor boys?” Will I get at least one response to this?
