Dear friends,

It is true , that the Alupas, ruled South Kanara from 2nd Century A.D. till 14th Century, almost 1200 years, itself is a Indian Historical Record!! These kings had their capital - either BARKUR, MUDUBIDRE,UDYAVAR OR MANGALORE from time to time. This royal family belong to Soma dynasty, and had fish symbol as their official insignia.

Last known king of this royal household was VEERAPANDYA Second - 1390-1399. Truely, a eye opening write-up by Shri Archibald Furtado, of Barkur, but doubt people of negetive frame thinking - what one get after knowing old
history? - support his / your call is a million dollar question..!!
Let us wait and watch, to see learned men to wake-up...

I just remembered a small incident about my fight for food.  Once my mother served two pieces of fish to my sister, but just one piece for me.  I went on nagging about it.  My mother, finally took my saucer, cut the piece of fish into two, and said, "Now, you too have two pieces. If you don't shut up, you will have just one piece!"

Dear Friends,

I’m indeed delighted to closely observe, the progress of your ‘cyber pages’- barkur.com, and feel honoured to see the attention given to visitors like us, by your Host, and grateful to few personal letters of members of your team!!.

Over the months, un-knowingly we have obsessed towards this site, may be because we 'smell the scent of same soil ' here or rather the way you put it may be because our roots are same!!!.

Over the years, we feel there was no group of 'credible writers' groomed or grown at this part of the Diocese, in Konkanni or say in other languages, among Catholics, except few and not even attempted to have a 'secular monthly periodical.' It doesn’t mean we have dearth of talents, surely not, one have to visit sites like this, maintained excellent literary quality in English, by its elite team, though confined and catering such a small town!

Overnight no one become writer or scholar, it needs a training ground, this website exactly providing this…!

May be some twenty years back, one Mr. Robert Furtado, Hungarkatte, brought out big changes in Youth Magazine ‘Amcho Yuvak’ during his tenure as its editor. While looking at the list of office bearers of ICYM Central Council for the year 2002, fail to find any representation to any of the Northern parishes and now it is part of history that once upon a time, in 30 years, there was a President from this side, in the form of Mr Herald D’Souza, of Barkur. Shall we consider it as discrimination or our youngster’s lethargic attitude towards social activities?

We want you to focus on such and other issues to build up public opinion and bring them to the notice of concerned authorities and there is no harm if you enlarge your perspectives.

In conclusion, may I ask you, dear friends, am I crossing my limits, by interfering with … if so keep me excused?

Best wishes,

G.S.Lewis, Kallianpur, 24th July 2002.

(Mr. Lewis , all the visitors of our site are our esteemed guests. We feel happy to receive your comments and request you to continue the good work that you are doing .We will try our best to incorporate your ideas and request all the visitors to send in their comments on the issues raised by Mr. Lewis. Thank you very much.   - Amchen Barkur Team.)

Dear G.S.Lewis,

Comparisons are not always fair, it is said! But in this case, we at Barkur web-site, believe they are not out of place either!!

With due respects, we accept your compliments, suggestions and specially criticisms for the betterment of our site!!!

Understand, our host, Mr Kishore Gonsalves, will take note of your inconveniences and necessary links etc. will be canalised.

Steps will be taken, to up-date almost all sections, as  soon as we broaden our scope, to cover the Barkur in totality. It should be remembered, the segments, reviewed by you, are altered once in a fortnight!

It doesn’t mean that, we are fully contented with our inputs, as written in our half yearly evaluation, we welcome contributions from one and all, including our neighbouring parishes and towns.

We promise you, and Kallianpurians, that, once a site is ready for your parish, we will give a direct link, the way now it is to Daiji Dubai etc.

After all once upon a time, some 100 years back, we belong to this great Milagres Parish, and incidentally, Barkur was the first among a dozen of the daughter parishes to be segregated. We feel together we can make a difference, at this part of our Diocese and wish this Web site played the role of golden rope to bind us.

Thanks once again,

Amchen barkur team
