My Dear Manoj,

From the hills, the valleys, the mountains, the trees, the glades, the rivers, the deserts, the flowers, the seas and ever changing seasons.
From the frosts, the later day's snows and the midday sun.
From the rumble of the summer thunders and the startling lightning.
From the fragrances of nature, the wild blooms and the citizens of the veld.

From the dramatic shapes of the Drakensburg, the soil-coloured waters of the Lekoa, Thukela, and the sands of the Kgalagadi.
From the lion, elephant, springbok, hyena, black mamba and the pestilent mosquito.

From  the African  Continent.

September 30th ! Happy Birthday and many happy returns of the day

Best Wishes and Regards from:

Olinda Sequeira and Baby Manith. 29/09/2002

A WORD OF PRAISE AND SPECIAL  THANKS

For the past 15 odd years, for different reasons we were in constant touch with the over half a dozen Managers of the Corporation Bank Barkur.

Earlier, in ‘80s Mr. Herald D’Souza was there to welcome anyone and everyone with a smile and special attention was given to illiterate / elderly Catholics, who recently switched over to this Bank, as for many years, there was monopoly of only one Bank i.e. Syndicate Bank near Church in our Barkur!

Every individual have their own characteristics and appeal – one such gentleman is the present manager Mr.Raghupathi S.Bhat, the branch manager of Heradi – Barkur unit, truly a man with simplicity and cosmopolitan approach.

The very reason of writing this note is:

We are one of those greatly impressed by h is arrangement to dispatch SANCTFIED NOVEM, the blessed new corn - to all Barkurians earning their livelihood abroad – the care and pain taken to pack them in tiny plastic bags with a touchy personal covering note, will speak itself in volumes!

We at Barkur Web-site, thank him and his staff, and pray to Almighty, through holy virgin Mother           Mary, to bless all of you in abundance, and send hearty wishes for a happy and long stay at our Barkur.

P.Archibald Furtado, Muscat, 24th Sept. 2002.

When I was working in New Delhi I was frequently visiting Karnataka Bhavan  to read the Kannada newspapers. Politicians coming from Karnataka are  attending the Parliament meetings, this place is a residence for them.

I knew some of the staff were from Karnataka  there, and one person working as a peon from Kundapur. He was telling me, if I meet the right politician with their connection and influence, I could get the Government job. Earlier I was visiting Oscar Fernandes’s office and he was giving letter to everyone, unfortunately his influence and letters did not work any where in New Delhi. Secondly, I was not happy with my job, decided to meet none other than Chief Minister Veerappa Moiley as he was frequently visiting New Delhi
and staying there. Before seeing the politician, prepared new C.V., polished my shoes and pressed my dress.

One day I came to know that Moiley is residing there and decided to meet him. Whole day he was busy with schedule and meetings. Some how at night 10 O' Clock the peon took me inside his cabin. Normally 10 O clock is too late for any meeting. But he came out and asked what I want? Slightly nervous but I said I am from so and so place working here pleaded him to help me in a vacant Government job in Delhi or Karnataka.  First he was disappointed after  hearing my story and request. Threafter he told  me to come through the proper channel as this was not the way to find a job. Going to a politician and asking for a job  won't work .

Suddenly I realized that I am neither a party worker nor do I have  any influence with  M.LA or M.P. After  wasting the whole evening I returned a dejected man to my room. Next day, decided to concentrate on my work and decided not to visit any ministers.

The renown Economist Alfred Marshall observed 'wealth is only a means to an end but not an end itself'. Here in the portals of your website, Mr.Furtado, rightly concluded, 'for a person like his teacher Mr Udupa, the teaching profession, was not only a platform to teach but to preach the right values'

Deeply impressed by the presence of such dynamic people in your tiny town. Congratulations!!
