My most embarrassing moments!

When I was young boy at home, once I got the responsibility to distributing the  wedding invitation cards to our relatives, friends and locals, as one of my uncles was getting married.  You know, in our society because of the tight schedule, limited period of
time everyone wants to finish invitation as early as possible so that they  can concentrate on other works.Distributing the Wedding invitation cards is such a boring job, as it takes long time because we have the tradition to visit house-to-house,  pass the bridges, rivers and even small islands (Kudru).

Any way, I started early in the morning from Katpadi and evening I reached Thottam. As per my list I visited one remote house somewhere near the beach  thinking that they are the next ones on my list. I was welcomed warmly by the pretty  daughter of a house lady. After my introduction, they offered cold drink and biscuits. Once finished the glass and the plate I started the topic.
Then I asked the house owner’s name to write on the  invitation card. Somehow the name they have given was  not tallying with my list. So I asked for the name again  and realized that I was sitting in a wrong house!  Chatting nicely with them and having their treatment. Now what to do? No  other options, embarrassed , I  apologized and  left for the next house. You  should have seen the face of the mother and the daughter. Luckily they never chased me with their dog behind me!

Tell me, things are getting so expensive day by day, how could we  invite  someone whom we never know ,as the catering plate would cost us Rs.50.00!

Second embarrassing moment was in a village.  When I was working in Dubai , my boss sent me to Rajastan to supervise the
material for a project in
Dubai , as we were buying this material from a rural area from Rajastan state. There is no facility for a hotel or any other accommodation .So I was forced to take shelter in a small stone-carving  factory, where there was no toilet and bathroom. For our basic things I was supposed  to utilize the open ground, carrying water in a beer bottle. One day I  took a walk at least half a kilometer to take the bath, as the weather was  hot. I reached an open farm where they were growing wheat, rice etc. There I  found a pond with fresh water flowing continuously from the pump. It was so  hot, I  started quickly to take the bath fearing that water will stop any time.

As I was taking the bath under the flowing warer from the pipe, I did not realized what was  happening around me. Once I turned my head behind me I saw two giant  bullocks standing next to me  came for drink of  the water.  Suddenly, one bullock came towards me, shaking its head. I had no other option, so immediately jumped in to the pond. I   heard giglings of  children and girls from behind the trees as they were sitting and watching me, and having fun!

I came out from the pond an hour later when an elderly lady came into the scene and chased the bullocks away!

Dear Friends and Member’s of ICYM, Barkur,

You are proving time and again that, the ICYM - St Peter’s Church Barkur is the best unit in the Kallianpur Varado!

Congratulations, and keep up the saga of getting recognized, honored by your excellent performance, started way back in 1976, in socio-cultural fields!!

On behalf of Ex-Member’s Co-ordination Committee,

Lawrence A Sequeira, - Convener.

P. Archibald Furtado, - Secretary.

It is said better late than never, a hearty welcome to new crop of lively writers, in this site in the form of Mr. Manoj Sequeira and Fr. Henry D’S ouza – both looks like birds of same feather, giving a good account of real life incidents!!

A well wisher, Barkur.

For the first time, I am surprised to see the so called ICYM Ex-Member's, an utterly indifferent attitude towards the call given by Mr. Archibald Furtado, to propose to  form an Association....

Hope you gentlemen, will not leave this ICYM, in the lurch, at this glorious moment of Silver Year.

In my opinion, as a third person, it is a must and viable to have such platform, where you have hundreds of previous members in your fold.

With regards,

M.M.Alvares, 4th  October, 2002 (alvaresmm@hotmail.com)
