                   CARRY ON FRIENDS…

On the one side it is but natural and human to expect appreciation, recognition for all good one is doing and one’s outstanding achievement and all of us like praises – may it be Eric Soans, Herald D’Souza, Kishoo, Dr. Fernandes, B.D.Shetty, Dr. Somyaji, Divya Furtado, and the long list hardly ends… On the other end, there are very few who are quick and spontaneous to notice this greatness in others.

Barkur site especially through its two or three interesting segments  - viz. Personality of the Month, Archie’s Corner and Interviews of prominent people of the area, doing this wonderful job and we noticed, this is the salient feature, of this site which differentiate from other contemporaries. Let us not be stingy in doing so in future too.

A site confined to a small place, naturally finds difficult to provide more reading material, that too not compromising the quality, with fewer writer’s you the Host managing this show and now you’ll be a kingmaker!!

Lastly, is it possible to have some sorts of easy Quiz or prediction on current affairs like ongoing Cricket World Cup..?

With best wishes and all success,

G.S.Lewis, Kallianpur, 27/02/2003.

Dear and proud Barkurians,

I am really proud of you guys, to keep all of us well informed of our native place and the people. Recently I was introduced to this site, fello barkurian and found it attractive, informative and vivid.
Pl. put Kannada story of Eric on line, which won prize. Also update regular sections atleast once a week, stale matters send regular visiters away, pl take care and all the best.

A BARKURIAN BY HEART.27/02/2003.

Folks:      Is there a map or road map of Barkur, depicting temples, churches, masjids, schools, colleges, hospital/dispensary, identifying places like santhekatte, saibarakatte, uddalagudde, sarabeedi, thirthabailu, simhasanagudde, government or post offices, banks, train or bus stops, hotels, motels, rivers, islets, bridges, forts, etc, etc, etc,?

This will help promote tourism, for sure! Can our artist Subbraya Shastri draw one to the nearest scale, if there aren't any?  (We can find a way to compensate his efforts, I suppose, for his colorful artistic touch?)

CongratulationCongratulations!!!

We are indeed very happy to know that ‘Thiruvina Mane’, a Kannada short story written by Eric Soans has won the first place in the Kannada Story Competition conducted by Kannada weekly, ‘Jana Prathinidhi’. Congratulations to Eric. No doubt that this award has inspired him to write more and more such stories, also inspire many young boys and girls in our community to take up writing in Kannada. Eric, keep the good work going. We know you are a very hard working and dedicated personality in the literary field. May you earn more and more prestigious awards in the years to come.

Dear Fernandes brothers of Nagermutt,

We at AYA join with barkur.com, to congratulate Sr Fernandes the gurkar serverd for fifteen long years and thank him as he was ex-officio one of the Directors of this tiny unit.

As it is well said the wearer knows where the shoe pinches and so Mr Robert Fernandes, but he succussfully rendered best of his services to the satisfaction of majority, midst of his personal pre-occupations, after  popular Mr Batthi Soz, as he took this responsibility, really a great job done!!!

We had wonderful association with Jr. Fernandes, A   P&T officer, as he was the founder Director of AYA Nagermutt, on this special day of their 20th wedding anniversary we send our felicitations -  to an ideal couple Zita and Jeromme!!! When everybody think of migrating the native place, these two, now of course
with family members, decided to be there at Nagermutt only.. and an
helping and to needy neighbours of the surroundings, a big thank you and best wishes for a happy & peaceful stay with us!!!

True to its character, Barkur is not a homogeneous town, each time a new personality is introduced, this belief gets credence and so is Dr.Somayaji – a scholar, social worker, a true teacher, an educationist loved and respected not only by his students in his classes / colleges, but now admired by all Barkurians!  Congratulations and thanks to this site!!

Late Mr Paul Andrade, of Laudate fame, was a gentleman at large and a man of all seasons, and his role as sole entertainer in wedding house of yester years, will not be faded away from our memory.

Now, on line snaps to remind and refresh the great silver moments of ICYM jubilee held in December certify this . Stephen Lewis of Mayura Studios, an artist by birth, see the world through his magical camera lenses and gifted with classic fingers to click!!

Keep it up, dear friend and history may forget the person behind great work but great works will not be forgotten!!!

A site well done! I am sure this is a venture of one or two enthusiastic individuals, and they must be complimented!
Can we have a section containing the email and other contact details of all Barkurians (like the kundapura site), so that enables people establishing direct contacts?

Best wishes

(We do have a Directory section and welcome all the Barkurians to send their contact info to be published. Even the entries from the neighboring places will be listed.. Please send your contact info like e mail addresses, telephone , fax numbers, mailing addresses etc with a subject line Directory to kishoos@satyam.net.in

Dear Eric Soans,

Congratulations on being conferred the prestigious FIRST PRIZE in the KANNADA SHORT STORY COMPETITION for your wonderful creation "Tiruvina Mane". You deserve accolades more so, as you earned a name in the highly  competitive Kannada literary field, compared to our mother tongue Konkanni,  where you already established a name and recognition.

May I expect another Na D'Souza or Hemacharya or say Micmax in the making..!

I was the one, fascinated by your masterly hold over spoken Kannada language and the vocabulary you use while compeering public functions!!

Keep the good work going, by adding many more masterpieces in both the languages.

I am extremely happy to see Dr.Somayaji in this site as the personality of the month. He is really a wonderful person and as you have rightly observed he is more interested in the total personality development of his students and he treats the students as his personal friends.

Sir, on behalf of your students I would like to thank you for your support and encouragement that you have given to us during our student life. Thank you Sir.

Suresh N. 12/012/2003

Mr. Dharmaraj Shetty,

Your fascinating interview needs kudos. It's great to hear, that you already secured a plot for small scale industries in Barkur.  You are already in touch with the agricultural scientists based in Brahmavara, to help promote agriculture using scientific or modern methods.  (I too personally like to see "Yields, more than the sprinkled seeds, in Barkur fields!") You have already drawn a master plan with the Archaeological Department regarding the restoration and face-lift of our temples. Cleaning of the temple sites should not be a problem, I suppose! It's wonderful to see you in  'Action" already.'

Dr. Somayaji:

Can we (Barkur) take advantage your funds out of your "Swajala Dhara Yojana" project to get our tanks cleaned? It must be in your plans already. I believe, people may be using the temple tank waters for drinking as well.

I admire the statement "Live, and let live."

Thanks and congratulations to you both for your enthusiasm.

Excellent inspiring article of Space Queen Dr. Kalpana Chawla!  Good job James Fernandes!!

-Austin Prabhu, USA 10/02/2003

Dear Kishoo Barkur,

Valentine Greetings are wonderful and attractive. Congratulations!!

One more thing caught my attention was the Personality of the Month, any way barkur.com may not contain all living  legends of Barkur now, surely many more like Mr. Somayaji will be honored in months to come!!

We were expecting some intellectuals will add up their feelings to that of Archie's in his latest on Focus by Udupi Administration, on your town, but not...?

Surely article on departed great Kalpana is a fitting obituary!! Photogallery also good, perfection is missing, compared to earlier ones.

Now a day this place is full of activities of wide range and likes and you take them to masses, good luck and wake up friends...!to recognise its worth.. And make use of..?

Philiph Richard, 8/02/03.
