Dear viewers of our web page, www.barkur.com, thanks for your encouraging words for my spiritual corner. My next article is on our "Independence Day". that is on the 15th    of August.  I enjoyed reading James Fernandes little story about optimist/ pessimist. I saved it for my sunday's sermon, I am sure someday I will be able to use it.

Fr. Tony Andrade, 07/08/2003

Aren't we taking shelter, in the pretext of 'entertainment' by not answering to the point...? Any comments panelists....?

Vincent D'Souza, 06/08/2003

It is a good reminder to Social / cultural platforms, to take note of Archie's Corner update. Man around you, always cheap, how so ever talented he / she may be...once distant people recognise such personalities, then only home people take note of.. and it is a chain re-action... if one platform recognise.. other will follow the queue...wait for the one who take lead to clap first...!

Encouragement and patting is essential in the beginning, awards and rewards follow if one is lucky.

Fr. Tony’s articles are highly befitting and timely, especially after the Sept 11 horrible incidents.  [Some people killed themselves while trying to kill others, and some people (fire-fighters) sacrificed their lives while trying save others from death, and thousands of innocent ones died, untimely, without even saying good bye to their loved ones, for no fault of their own.]  Ever since this incident, church attendance has increased. I personally have noticed that since last two years, I do not have to pass 3-4 pews to find a person to wish “Peace be with you!” Now I can find one in the front pew or one behind, easily.    People find solace in things spiritual.  Fr. Tony’s articles do impart such solace, for those who seek, and for those who are open to listen/read, irrespective of any religious beliefs.  We (Barkurians) are proud of Fr. Tony.  Remember folks, “It takes a village!”  Let’s claim some credit folks, for Fr. Tony’s achievements!

It’s simply marvelous to read several kudos from his parishioners in this site.  Actually Barkur.com is grateful to Fr. Tony for providing us with such words from God, so very eloquently.  It shows that he hasn’t forgotten his roots!

When I was in Bombay, I was known as an “Outstanding Catholic.”  Even if I was 5 minutes early to Mass, I could never find a seat inside the Church. Even if I were to find a seat, I was expected to give up the seat to some one else, anyway!  Hence, I used stand at the door-steps, or in the yard.  Thus, the title, “Outstanding Catholic!”

It is good to note that at least someone from the opposite gender has given a fitting answer, loud and clear to the question put up by Philip Richard `Why do women become fat after marriage?' As rightly said in the answer, lack of exercise and lack of desire to remain fit, etc. are some of the causes for obesity among both men and women. Mr.Richards you may turn your sight to bollywood actors like Sharmila Tagore, Simi Garewal, Hema Malini Vs Shammi Kapoor, Shashi Kapoor, Rishi Kapoor, etc.

Also, a special request to the Barkur.com Hosts not to publish any message in this column that seeks to advertise about any products or services, least of all insurance products. As per IRDA guidelines, insurance is a subject matter of solicitation and one should not advertise for insurance without the caution statement (just as you cannot advertise tobacco products without the health warning).

I was surprised to read a direct msg from Peter Peris dt.27/7 for NRIs to secure their lives thru LIC. I am sure there are scores of Barkurians who may be marketing Insurance & Risk Cover Products of not only LIC, but a dozen other Companies. If one wants to advertise, let him or her pay a special price and flash the message at the top slot provided for advertisement (with proper warnings etc.) and not via the feedback message. Let the Website earn some revenue by flashing advertisements. ]

Hi to everyone in Fr. Tony's homeland...We have enjoyed your website. We have met Father Tony while he was a chaplain at Children's Hospital in St. Paul, MN. He has been a wonderful friend and support to our family. He has baptized our twin boys and prayed with us daily while our daughter was in the NICU in 1997. We just love him. He has grown up with our family. Thank you for giving him a place to write... we enjoy his articles and memories he shares. Thank you!

Dear panelists...

A charitable   trust/organization, specially which is a part of roman catholic church, where  the office bearers keep changing every year, Misappropriates, mismanages or misplaces charitable funds,

The Team of Barkur.com ,

My sincere CONGRATULATIONS to you all on your efforts in coming  up with such a  informative websiite,  which will keep people like me in the picture besides bringing back Golden Memories of BARKUR, the place I lived and enjoyed  until my School and then my College days. Through this  website I came to know the  sad demise of my friend and relative the Late Lancy Furtado and our neighbour  the Late  Denis Sequeira,  besides other deaths. May their souls rest in peace. I was also  happy to view the pictures of my High School classmate Stany Pais and  High Schoolmate Shantaram Shetty. Convey  my best wishes to them and also to Shankar Poojary, Patrick D'Almeida, Dr Ramachandra Nambiar, my benchmate. I will keep  in touch  with Barkur.com from time to  time to know more about the events that are taking place actively around THE HISTORICAL CITY - "BARKUR'.  God bless  you all and convey our love to my nephew Steven Lewis of Mayur Audio & Video, Saligrama. Kind regards to you all.

When I go through the rich, informative, friendly, and at times comical/funny Barkur.com, it is fascinating to notice that how each one remembers Barkur differently or answers the Q_A, quite differently.  This reminds me of a poem/story which is presented below:

(This may be immature/childish and result-less reading for some, however, someone  who hasn’t heard this  completely before, may benefit from it.)

The Blind Men and the Elephant, (A Hindoo Fable)

                   1                                              2

It was six men of Indostan                The first approached the Elephant,

To learning much inclined,                        And happening to fall

Who went to see the Elephant                Against its broad and sturdy side,

(Though all of them were blind),              At once began to bawl:

That each by observation                      “God bless me! But the Elephant

Might satisfy his mind.                           Is very like a wall?”

                   3                                              4

3.The second, feeling of the tusk,            The third approached the animal,

Cried, “Ho! What have we here                 And happening to take

So very round and smooth and sharp?       The squirming trunk within his hands,

To me ‘tis mighty clear                           Thus boldly up and spake:

This wonder of an Elephant                      “I see,” quoth he,”the Elephant

is very like a spear!”                               Is very like a snake!”

                    5                                              6

The fourth reached out an eager hand,      The fifth who chanced to touch the ear,

And felt about the knee.                         Said, “e’en the blindest man

“What most this wondrous beast is like      Can tell what this resembles most;

is mighty plain,” quoth he;                       Deny the fact who can,

“’tis clear enough the Elephant                 This marvel of an Elephant

Is very like a tree!”                                Is very like a fan!”

                   7                                              8

The sixth no sooner had begun                 And so these men of Indostan

About the beast to grope,                       Disputed loud and long,

Then, seizing on the swinging tail             Each in his own opinion

that fell within his scope,                        Exceeding stiff and strong,

“I see,” quoth he, “the Elephant               Though each was partly in the right

is very like a rope.”                                And all were in the wrong

                                       MORAL

And so oft in theologic wars,

                             The disputants, I ween,

                             Rail on in utter ignorance

                             Of what the other mean,

                             And prate about an Elephant

Not one of them has seen!

 James Fernandes, USA, 03/08/2003

Dear friends,

Yet another section took off in barkur.com, questions and answers.  The first set of questions put up by Mr. Philip are from different fields and Mr. James made a honest and praise worthy effort in answering them, we thank him and others in the panel too.

All of us may be having specific or general answers to these questions, but as a sr.barkurian, Mr. James attempting to state facts here. I feel others in the panel, may be having their own version, not necessarily educative and informative, I mean, entertainment with bit sarcasm or taunts without hurting any individual are welcome.  Panel friends and reader's is it ok with you...?

MM Alvares. 02/08/2003

To start with, it is wonderful..., now let me attempt to ask few more....
