(Dear visitors, please tell us , how do you feel about our Q n A section...Shoot your questions to our panelists as soon as possible to keep the section vibrant and dynamic. - barkur.com team)

Mr. Vijay's efforts to educate masses deserve praises. There was a time where ignorance, lack of education, zamindari system, pushed people in darkness. After independence in 1947, India made enormous progress and so called mantra-tantravadi's can not cheat as before, but others I can say 'educated cheaters, flourished to rob innocents in various ways - unfortunately, here educated and people in towns and cities got duped. We trust people very easily if tempted or lured with little more money or discounts or free gifts and eventually end up with loosing the principle as we pay ADVANCE for the services or schemes never get materialise!

While unfurling the tricolor on 15th August, on behalf of BARKUR.COM & ICYM Ex-Member's Association, we wish all a Happy

Independence Day!!

P.Archibald Furtado, Muscat, 13/08/2003

Dear James,

As you have taken detour from the question (i.e.. voluntary organization) towards day-to-day scenario to explain ‘forgive & forget’ ideology. Please take note on this situation. Suppose you have invested your 10% of your life’s financial savings in a Non Banking Financial Corporation (NBFC). You are retired now. One fine morning  you find that the company closed down. Now still you profess forgive & forget policy & wait for justice to get served, sooner or later or will you take legal steps.

Ozzy Dubai 13/08/2003

Dear Mr.Ozzie,

Please  keep me excused for wrongly reading between the lines, it is just a co-incidence that 'dearth of POM figures vis-ŕ-vis forgive and forget' prompted me to say so. Today's world, as everything is polluted and corrupted, public funds / charity money and resources spent for personal use of trustees. I 've seen innumerable examples of such wolves whose life has become hell in this world itself. Once again, Mr.Ozzie let us educate our people to thrust such responsibilities in the hands of worthy people as Mr. James elaborated.....

Barkurgar, 13/08/2003

Ozzie Dubai raised an issue general in character which has serious bearing on society and public life. To add one more proverb to Barkurgar? in these days everywhere " Beliye Holavannu Mayidante" ( fence eating the crop.!) One point I fail to understand in Ozzie Dubai's message is - forgive and forget principle and dearth of POM's - Personality of the month.

Lastly, Ozzie, me too feel un-happy or bitter if not getting convincing or to the point answers!? (Panel member's please  don't take this something personal)

M.M.Alvares. 13/08/2003

Hello Barkurgar,

My question was just a generalized situation & nothing personal. I failed to understand “one can understand the bitterness you felt”. Did you mean that I felt bitterness because I could not get more answers to my question? Or I did not manage to get answer to the point? Or will you …………….. Anyway I am thankful to Barkur.com & Mr. James for their effort to prioritize my query. Regards,

Ozzy, Dubai 12/08/2003

Friends,

This Q'S n A’S in Barkur.com seems to be interesting in days to come, as it got potentials of creating controversies and thereby deriving logical conclusions, that in the process a healthy sign of debate. It is host's innovative concept, as 3 or 4 people answer the same Q, of course others r welcome as per him.. but u know.. most of us enjoy others fight or argue from distance..! keep going, & happy to read about latest person of month Mr Pais, a beautiful salute in 2 pages!

Dear Ozzie,

I admire your persistence in your effort to seek an answer.  Oh, yes, I was beating around the bush, for sure.

When a financial statement is approved by the office bearers the Parish Priest may not get into verifying the validity of the approved report. Why should he?

Yes, those who elected the office bearers are part of the process too. For example, if a war is declared, it reflects on every citizen, and affects every citizen, even though decision is made at the top level.  The soldier, even though, he did not make the decision, has to go for war. This is what I meant, when I questioned, "Who elected the office bearers?"

If you are a water boy at a football game, is it a sin if YOU drink a few sips of water? In the soup kitchens or free meal distribution centers, the volunteers are fed first.

"Yes, some people give some money for charity, and forget about it."   If I know, or read in the papers that cheating is involved, I may stop my donations.  As I have said before,"justice gets served, sooner or later."

In conclusion: If there is no such thing as 'forgive and forget', perhaps majority of us would be in the prisons! And there would be no one left to support the prisons! For, if I go to work 5 minutes late, I am cheating, If I use company's phone or computer for personal use, I am cheating, if I am thinking about 'right & wrong' during working hours, I am cheating.  Good and evil, or right and wrong, cheating and honesty, rich and poor, weak or strong will be around for quite a while.   The beauty is to learn to live with them.

Finally, in spite of the side effects, a medicine gets approved, because the benefit outweighs the risks.

Dear Ozzie,

One can understand the bitterness you felt or so...remember, 'madidunno maharaya' the kannada syaing goes, ultimately, one in his life, have to pay a price for one's deeds.'Zadthi karinakat, tumchi zadthi zavnchina'

Barkurgar. 11/08/2003

To the best of my understanding, on going through the archives, the host or his team selectively choose a prominent person to the special honour as "Personality of the Month" itself is an encouragement to him /her or to their admirers. Whole career of a man may be of ups and downs, success /failures, but in a larger sense, I feel the site highligt his contribution to the society. Hence readers are welcome to derive their conclusions not subscribing to that of site totally, partially and blindly.

Father Tony I really enjoyed your article about St. Valentine. I think that this web site would also be could for my girls to go to. I also thought that it was interesting reading about your home town.

M.M.Alvares. 10/08/2003

Whom-so-ever what-ever it may be, but for me the answer to Ozzie Dubai's Q is very impressive. Keep it up Mr. James Fernandes and thank you, visitors you too can shoot out anything you doubt or want clarifications....

Philiph Richard. 10/08/2003

Dear James,

Your uncanny knack of negotiating the point, killing the snake & leaving stick intact highly exemplary. After going through the elaborative answer I could get you touching the point a few occasions. Who elected the office bearers? Did you mean to say members who elected the office bearers should be responsible? Parish priest may not ask for nittie/gritty details, because he has better things to do than to investigate !!!!. Yes between sermon or end of the Sunday mass announcements, he do not forget to call upon the parishioners to contribute generously towards the charitable cause !!! Once the money is in who bothers where it goes !!!! Finally, your opinion ‘forgive & forget’ ………….. (& not to forget to contribute towards the next cause) I thought bearing the crime is as good as committing one. If we successfully cultivate forgive & forget ideology, Barkur.com will not face any dearth for POM section !!!!!

Hotel Problem:

Three women went to a hotel and were told that there was only one room left and that it would cost Rs.30 for the night.  They paid Rs.10 a person and went to the room.  The desk clerk, discovering that by mistake he had overcharged them by Rs.5, asked the bellboy to return the Rs.5.  The bellboy, not being as honest as the clerk, reasoned that since Rs.5 is not easy to divide three ways, he would keep Rs.2 (as a tip), and return Rs.1 to each of the three ladies.  Now, each lady then actually paid only Rs.9 a piece or a total of Rs.27 for the room.   Add to this the Rs.2 the bellboy kept and the total is Rs.29.  Where did the missing Rupee go?

Though, we all born as Barkurians without our consent, happy to be so and proud of too, St. Peter only knows whether we get Barkurian soil or not, as we die against our will..! Now, the Question to our panelists is, what way and how we can live as BARKURIAN as special character..?

Vincent D'Souza, 09/08/2003

I have heard you had a very educated man in  Barkur Mr. Dennis Sequeira who was a barrister from England and now he  is no more. But you people never bothered to put his article in the personality of the month. We should have being honoured that such an educated man was living in Barkur, forgetting all his sickness whether phyical or mental. May his soul rest in peace,  and please think about this .

Rohith, 08/08/2003

It reminds me of the popular proverb in Kannada, 'sankata bandaga, venkata-ramana' while going thr Mr James... 'Children' and 'aged-ones' always very close to Him, others in 'need' or for 'favors' approach Him. Our freind Stany Pais got recognised now, though bit late. We congratulate him, - keep fit to be in the limelight MR PAIS!
