In the heart of Barkur, on a serene hilltop overlooking the historic Vijaya Nagara Fort, stands an institution that has shaped generations and transformed destinies — National High School, Barkur.
Founded in 1946, in the twilight of the pre-Independence era, National High School was born out of the vision and commitment of the Barkur Educational Society, an umbrella organisation of farsighted and selfless leaders of Barkur. At a time when educational opportunities were scarce, it stood tall as the only High School between Kallianpur and Kundapura, becoming a beacon of hope for countless rural families.
Spread across a sprawling 18.5 acres of lush green campus, the school is not merely an academic institution but a living testimony to the power of education. It flourished under the stewardship of legendary educators and scholars such as Head Master P. N. Bhoja Rao, Principal B. Seetharama Shetty, including the incumbent Prin. Mrs Usha Kiran Shetty and scores of other learned and dedicated teachers whose wisdom, discipline, and compassion left an indelible mark on generations of students.
For decades, National High School and in later years is better known as 'National Junior College' was the sole gateway to higher education for economically poor students of Barkur and the surrounding villages. It changed the course of lives, uplifted families, and quietly built the backbone of the region by producing responsible citizens, professionals, leaders, and human beings rooted in values.

With deep gratitude and pride, we salute our Alma Mater — a towering 'Temple of True Learning' in this ancient temple town adorned with 365 temples, Jain Basadis, Churches, and Mosques, symbolising harmony, heritage, and inclusiveness.
True to its legacy, the 'Barkur Educational Society', the pioneers of educational revolution, having two Primary, SVVN English Medium High School, famed National Industrial Techhnical Institute, NITI, once again listened to the aspirations of the local community. Learning must not be like stagnant water but living and flowing stream sensitive to contemporary requirements of quality and standards at affordable cost.
Determined to live up to fast changing educational needs, the BES Management always flexible, has taken a visionary step forward by strengthening Pre-University education, in collaboration with 'Sujnan Educational Trust'— a name synonymous with quality, discipline, and academic progress.
A Great Step Towards a Brighter Future:
From the academic year 2026–27, applications are invited for admission to PU Studies, opening a new chapter exclusively for the benefit of Barkurians and students from neighbouring areas and beyond....This initiative reaffirms the Society’s unwavering commitment under its President Shri B Shantarama Shetty and the cohesive team, to provide the highest standards and value-based education, rooted in its founding vision.
As National PU College, steps into a new era, it carries forward not just classrooms and curricula, but dreams, determination, and decades of trust.
