Government Higher Primary School, Hosala | 03 February 2026

Government Higher Primary School, Hosala, came alive on February 3, 2026, as students took on the roles of buyers and sellers at the school's annual fair — an event designed to build practical business skills among young learners in the region.

The fair was inaugurated by Mr. Manjunath Acharya, president of the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), in the presence of SDMC Vice-President Ms. Usha Raghavendra and other committee members. Mr. Albert Rodrigues, president of the school's Alumni Association, also attended the event alongside a gathering of parents and members of the local community.

Mr. Sharanu Hosala, a member of the Barkur Panchayat, addressed the participants and encouraged them to make the most of the occasion.

The fair was conceived with a clear educational purpose: to foster business awareness, strengthen numeracy skills, and cultivate an interest in production and sales among students from rural backgrounds. Organisers also hoped the event would inspire a healthy competitive spirit and help young participants grasp fundamental concepts of profit and loss in a hands-on setting.

The initiative carries a certain local significance. Barkur's weekly market was, for several decades, among the oldest and busiest in the surrounding region — a tradition that the school fair seeks, in its own way, to echo and revive among the next generation.

Headmaster Mr. Shyamsundar Shetty oversaw the arrangements, with teachers Ms. Parvathi, Ms. Geetha, Ms. Sowmya, and Ms. Kalavathi lending their support throughout the event
