ICYM Barkur and ICYM Brahmavar Parish Organize Thrilling Football Tournament 2024

On 02/06/2024 the Inter-Parish Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) of Barkur and Brahmavar Parishes hosted an exhilarating football tournament that showcased the athletic prowess and sportsmanship of the youth from various parishes in the region. The event, held at Nirmala High School grounds, drew a large crowd of enthusiastic spectators who cheered on their favorite teams throughout the day.

The tournament was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Valerian Mendonca, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. In his inspiring speech, Fr. Mendonca emphasized the importance of sports in fostering unity, discipline, and character development among the youth. He commended the organizers for their efforts in bringing together young people from different parishes to engage in friendly competition.

Sharing the stage with Fr. Mendonca were several esteemed guests, including Fr. Ronald Miranda (Parish Priest, Barkur), Fr. Lenson Lobo (Assistant Parish Priest, Brahmavar), Godwin Mascarenas (ICYM Diocese President), Lloyd Cornelio (ICYM Deanery President), Ceolla Pinto (ICYM Barkur President), and Maren Pinto (ICYM Brahmavar President). Their presence added to the significance of the event and demonstrated the strong support of the church and the ICYM leadership.

The tournament featured both men's and women's categories, with teams from various parishes competing for the coveted titles. The matches were fiercely contested, displaying the exceptional skills and determination of the players. In the men's category, ICYM Pethri emerged as the champions, while ICYM Kemman secured the runners-up position. The women's category saw ICYM Sasthan clinching the victory, with ICYM Barkur finishing as the runners-up.

One of the highlights of the tournament was the outstanding performance of Shynal Pinto from Bennekurdu Ward, who was awarded the Best Striker in the women's category. Her exceptional goal-scoring abilities and relentless attacking play made her a force to be reckoned with on the field. Clarissa Fernandes, also from Bennekuru Ward, was recognized as the Best Goalkeeper for her stellar saves and unwavering dedication to protecting her team's goal.

The valedictory ceremony was graced by the presence of Fr. John Fernandes, Parish Priest Brahmavar and Fr. Sunil D'Silva Prish Priest, Sasthan, along with the other distinguished guests. They congratulated the winners and participants for their outstanding performances and sportsmanship throughout the tournament. The organizers expressed their gratitude to all the sponsors, volunteers, and supporters who contributed to the success of the event.
