Teachers’ Day Celebration at National Group of Educational Institutions, Barkur

The National Group of Educational Institutions, administered by the Barkur Educational Society (BES), celebrated Teachers’ Day with devotion, gratitude and grandeur, honouring the noble role of teachers who shape young minds and future citizens.

The program commenced with a prayer led by the Mrs Aparna, teacher of SVVN Heradi, invoking blessings for all educators. Sri Gopala Naik, Correspondent of National High School & PU College, extended a warm welcome to the gathering.

The stage program was presided over by Sri Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, Vice President of BES, the benevolent sponsor of this annual event for many years. In his presidential message, he applauded the teachers for their dedication and reminded them of their lifelong influence on society.

Sri Ashok Kumar Shetty, Secretary of BES, delivered an inspiring talk, beautifully narrating who an ideal teacher is and outlining the responsibilities of a true guru.

The distinguished Chief Guest, Dr. Gananath Yekkar, Retired Principal of Tenkanidiyur Government First Grade College, addressed the assembly of teachers from all six institutions under BES. He emphasised the importance of passion, integrity, and compassion in teaching, drawing examples from contemporary education.

In a solemn and symbolic gesture, the portrait of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan – teacher, philosopher and former President of India – was unveiled and offered floral tributes. A traditional oil lamp was lit, signifying the teacher’s life of selfless sacrifice, akin to a candle that burns itself to spread light.

The highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of outstanding teachers.

The Best Teacher Award 2025  of National High School sponsored by Infosis International was conferred on Craft Teacher Mrs Kamala was honoured with traditional shawl, memento and a cash award of Rs 10,000/-.

Mr. Suresh Shetty, versatile Physical Education Director of  SVVN National High School, who have great achievements to his credit received special honours. Both were draped with a traditional shawl, presented a bouquet, memento, and books as a token of appreciation, by Guests on stage.

In addition, all teachers of the six institutions were individually recognised and encouraged with roses and gifts, a touching gesture that created a family-like atmosphere of respect and affection.

The heads of six institutions – Mrs. Usha Kiran Shetty (National PU College), Sri Venkatesh Kramadhari (NITI), Mrs. Likhita Kotary (SVVN Heradi), Mrs. Hemavathy P. S. (National High School), Sri Udaya Shetty (Hanehalli Primary), and Sri Ratnakar Shetty (Heradi Primary) – too were recognised and on behalf of all of them, Principal Mrs Usha Kiran Shetty shared her feelings, expressing gratitude to the management for their constant encouragement.

Adding to the sentiments, Sri Sankadi Karunakar Shetty, President of the National Old Students Association, shared heartfelt words of appreciation for the teachers’ contributions. The Correspondents of various National Institutions – Sri Sreenivas Shettigar (Hanehalli Primary), Sri Ratnakar Shetty (Heradi Primary), and Sri Rajarama Shetty (SVVN National English Medium High School, Heradi) – graced the occasion and on behalf of all of them, Mr Rajarama Shetty too conveyed their best wishes, to all teachers of National Group of Educational Institutions.

The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Sri Ramachandra Kamath, Correspondent of NITI. The proceedings were skillfully compered by Retired Prof. Archibald Furtado, Admin Coordinator of the National Group of Institutions.

It was truly a proud moment, our former Minister and Member of Parliament and chairman of Backward classes commission, Karnataka State paid a visit to the College Auditorium and greeted teachers on their special day.

A joyful fellowship lunch, generously sponsored by Sri Shedikodlu Vittal Shetty, was relished by nearly 100 teaching and 35 non-teaching staff, strengthening the bond of oneness among all – truly living up to the spirit of Teachers’ Day.
