In a unique and engaging initiative, the students of National Primary School in Barkur celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and commitment towards environmental conservation. This year's theme, 'Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience', served as the driving force behind the school's efforts to instill awareness and promote sustainable practices among its young learners.

The celebration commenced with a ceremonial assembly of students from Classes I to V, gathered in front of the school at 11:00 AM. The highlight of the event was the planting of saplings, which the children undertook with utmost care and dedication. Each student diligently watered and applied manure to the newly planted saplings, fostering a sense of responsibility towards nurturing and protecting nature.

Enhancing the significance of the occasion, a student leader delivered an eloquent speech, highlighting the importance of World Environment Day and the urgency of addressing environmental challenges. The speech resonated with the young audience, inspiring them to become active participants in the global effort to safeguard the planet.

The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Sudhakar Rao, a retired Headmaster of the school. In his address, he commended the initiative taken by the current Headmaster, Mr. Udaya Shetty, and the teaching staff for their efforts in raising environmental awareness among the students. Emphasizing the crucial role of the younger generation, Mr. Rao stressed the need for collective action to ensure a thriving future for our planet.

Mr. P. Archibald Furtado, the Administrative Coordinator of National Educational Institutions, expressed his appreciation for the school's proactive approach to environmental education. He lauded the school's continuous efforts in cultivating positive impact through daily actions like reducing waste, picking up plastic wrappers, and nurturing plants within the campus premises.

The event served as a powerful reminder of the importance of instilling environmental consciousness from an early age. By involving children in hands-on activities such as planting and caring for saplings, the school aimed to foster a deeper connection with nature and a lifelong commitment to environmental stewardship.

As the event drew to a close, the students, teachers, and guests alike shared a profound sense of pride and responsibility towards preserving the planet's natural resources. The celebration at National Primary School, Barkur, exemplified the collective effort required to address global environmental challenges and paved the way for a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come.
