Barkur abounds in innumerable temples, rich architectural treasures and cultural traditions, which deserve to be preserved for posterity. These monuments are not only ancient, but also of historical and mythological significance. Most of them are in dilapidated conditions and on the verge of disappearance and ruination. Those, who have a genuine concern for and abiding interest in these ancient moola sthanas, rare sculptural and art treasures as well as the rich heritage are duty bound both morally and socially to preserve their pristine glory and make them available for the future generation.

We, at ‘Barkur-on Team’, believe that by supporting the people’s movement, our ancient culture can be solidly preserved, and it is in the recent past a genuine effort is made by socially concerned Barkurians, as Religio-culturlal revolution is in progress and just to cite two best examples – Benne Kudru Garodi and Shrine of Maldi Devi and Babbu Swamy at Kachhur, getting a much needed renovation and facelift.

What was / is common with both these great efforts are, for many years, these holy places belong to socially deprived segment of our society, as per the age old caste or varna system, as the former is sacred for Billavas and Fishermen community and the latter for Shiva Bhakhtas – adi Dravida

The ‘Kachhur Fields of Barkur’ now glittering with a newly built spacious and attractive Shrine gracefully standing on its root, on an acquired land measuring about 5 acres, dedicated to Maldi Devi and her son Shri Babbu Swamy, at a cost of 1.5 crores.

Week long celebrations, religious rituals and participation of thousands of pilgrims from all over the Districts of Coastal Karnataka and neighboring places, will surely re-write the old glory of Barkur, on a new wall.

Barkur-on-line, will try its best to bring to the notice our readers as the grand show is unfoled on 17th April, 2008, a grand procession of devotees, various donations in kind – (hore kannike) all the way from Udupi near Karavalli bye-pass, reached the destination royal, Barkur, yesterday to usher the beginning of week long saga of events.
