Throw Ball Tournament at Barkur

National Pre University College along with Department of Pre University education organized Taluk Level Throw ball tournament recently at the college and Shri Durga Parameshwari College, Mandarthi emerged as the champion in both boys and girls section.

The boys team defeated the team of Poorna Prijna college, Udupi in the finals and the girls team encountered the girls from Government College, Kokkarne and won over them.

College correspondent Bhojaraj Shetty distributed the prizes. B. Bhujanga Shetty, member Jilla Panchayath, inaugurated the tournament. Krishnamoorthi Bhat, Principal, National Pre University College, Barkur, Praveen Shetty, Principal, Shri Durga Parameshwari College, Mandarthi , Chandrashekara Shetty, Sudhakar Rao were present on the occasion.

B.K. Badigere welcomed and K. sathynarayana Udupa proposed the vote of thanks. Umesh Shetty conducted the proceedings.

Dharmavar Agri Farm Project, a dream of Mr.B.D.Shetty

Brahamavar –Barkur Citizens’ forum (BBCF) was Formed for making these two twin towns (Brahmavar & Barkur) into a model growth centre for Modern horticulture, Agriculture, cottage & Food processing industries, tourism & higher education in the next 10 years.

It has now embarked on an ambitious programme of Developing a Model Horticulture Farm by creating a land bank of 40-50 acres by Surrendering the land using right to a horticulture cooperative Farm retaining the land ownership right with them for growing various agriculture and horticulture crops as recommended, guided by University Department of Regional Agriculture Research centre (ZRS), Brahmavar.

Some of the crops identified are Tapioca, Sweet potato and other Tuber crops. A team of 16 progressive farmers from Barkur – Brahmavar is being sent for training at a renowned institute “Central Tuber Crops Research Institute (CTCRI)”, Trivandrum to study tuber crops growing, adoption of high breed variety of crops, harvesting, processing into end products like starch, sago, Fries, chips, condiments, snacks etc.

2 scientists from Agri Research centre, Brahmavar and 2 leaders/supervisors of Udupi & Kundapur Taluka of well known NGO for village reforms doing excellent work under Dharmastala Grama Abhivridhi Yojane are also accompanying them along with about 12 enthusiastic progressive farmers. All arrangement for training Is pre-arranged at CTCRI Trivandrum.

Tapioca growing & processing them into end products like starch, sago, chips, fries, ready eatable snacks, production. Training will be given by CTCRI Trivandrum with demonstration and trainings for 3 days.

As per founder president of BBCF,  B. Dharmaraj Shetty, and President, K. K. Nayak, this project can trigger a chain Reaction for betterment at village levels in all direction of growing, harvesting, processing & marketing of agriproducts out of food processing units that can come up in the near future.

A sound cooperation between local farmers, BBCF, Regional Agri Research centre, Brahmavar and renowned Dharmastala Grama Abhivridhi Yojane is already planned & under execution.

Forum has an ambitious programme of forming a farmers’ Cooperative for growing of horticulture products in a large scale, a women empowerment cooperative for processing of agri & horticulture products under rural cottage industries & food processing industries, home industries and also production of industrial products like sorbitol, liquid glucose, sugar syrup, glucose powder, sago (sabakki), industrial starch, textile sizing compounds, hotel supply products and its distribution to hotels of Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Hubli, Dharwad, Belgaum, other cities & abroad.

A feed stock for starch fermentation as an alternative source to supplement molasses or sugar cane juice to Sugar factory for producing bio fuel ethanol. They have also plan to promote Agri Tourism & Agri seminars in this area & farms.

Brahmavar-barkur citizens’ forum appeals to all citizens of Barkur and Brahmavar, Government officials, Government Departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Food processing, Micro Industries, Tourism, Government Industries Department, District Administration of Udupi to give maximum co-operation to make this vision a grand success.
