Railway Station
St. Peters Association Barkur-
Mumbai, the main sponsors of the annual feast of the Barkur, St.
Peters church, held on December 16th Tuesday & 17th
Wednesday 2008, voluntarily came out with a special project to
construct Travelers’ Resting Room at Barkur Railway Station, to
commemorate this historical occasion for the benefit of train
commuters.
In a simple ceremony held at 3:45
pm on Thursday 18th ’08 at the platform, among others,
president of SPA Mr. Richard Carvalho, former presidents Felix
Barnes & Henry Roche, general secretary Ivan M Rebello, vice
presidents Peter Furtado & Norbert Menezes, other office bearers,
members of the SPA Executive Committee & their families, former
members, well wishers like former NJC Principal, B.Seetharam
Shetty, Station Master Vinod and other railway Staff attended the
foundation stone laying.
Earlier Vicar of Barkur Church Rev.
Fr.R.C.M. Aranha blessed the foundation stone and appreciated the
SPA’s social concern and spending public money for public use by
picking up this project to benefit railway commuters in coming
days.
Snacks, sweets & refreshments were served to all the guests.

BBCF to honor International Achievers from the locality.
Brahmavar Barkur Citizen’s Forum (BBCF)
is a group of like minded, socially concerned people who were
always at the forefront to initiate, support and to execute
welfare programmes for the benefit of youth in particular and the
public in general. It was formed
by Barkur Dharmaraja Shetty of Unitop Group, Mumbai, for making
these two twin towns (Brahmavar & Barkur) into a model growth
centre for Modern horticulture, Agriculture, cottage & Food
processing industries, tourism & higher education in the next 10
years.
One of their most ambitious programmes it has embarked on is to
develop a Model Horticulture Farm by creating a land bank of 40-50
acres by surrendering the land using right to a horticulture
cooperative farm retaining the land ownership right with them for
growing various agriculture and horticulture crops as recommended,
guided by University Department of Regional Agriculture Research
centre, Brahmavar. BBCF’s concern in promoting social and economic
justice, educational programmes were always acclaimed by people
and press.
Now the forum has come out with a novel concept to recognize the
services, talents and contribution of fellow great men and women
of this locality. They have chosen people from various walks of
life for this coveted honor to be held on 24th December
at Shri Dharmavaram Auditorium (A.C.) and Resorts at Brahmavar.

Scientist for Bio Technology, Enzyme Technology, Bio Fuel

– Max Springs, Houston and Kishore Gonsalves of

guest of honor.
In a press release here Mr.B.D.Shetty, Founder President, and Mr.K.K.Nayak, President, BBCF informed that the formal stage
function will start at 5.30 pm sharp and will be preceded by
cultural programmes and the inauguration of the newly renovated
and air conditioned Dharmavaram Auditorium.
Annual Feast
of Bennekudru Temple and Silver Jubilee of Mogaveera Yuvaka Sangha
Mogaveera Yuvaka Sangha, Bennekudru- Barkur celebrated their
Silver Jubilee on 16th & 17th December of
the 2008 along with the annual feast of Shri Kula Mahastheree
temple at Bennekudru Barkur.
On 16th the inaugural function of the jubilee
celebrations was held at premises of Shree Kulamasti Amma Temple
Bennekudru- Barkur. The festivities were inaugurated by Dr. G.
Shankar, President G.Shankar Family Trust, Udupi. In his inaugural
address he praised Mogaveera Yuvaka Sangha for their active role
social work and creativity in the society for the last quarter
of century and he advised the youth to work for the improvement
of Bennekudru temple in the forthcoming days. The stage programme
was presided over by Anand C. Kunder, President of the
Administrative Committee Shree Kulamasti Amma Temple Bennekudru.
B. Shantharam Shetty, President Grama Panchayath, Barkur,
Hiriyanna T Kediyoor, President Fishermen Group, Malpe, B M
Krishna, President Billava Seva Sangha, Barkur, M Venkataramana
Bhandarkar, Area President, Janajagrathi Vedike Shree Kshetra
Dharmastala, B. Sudhakar Rao, Retired Headmaster Barkur were the
chief guests of the programme.
Gurudas Bangera, President Persin Boats Committee was felicitated
during the occasion.
Many cultural prgrammes were presented by school children and a
Tulu comedy drama Kebi Pitthale by Chaa Parka
Group directed by Telikeda Bolli fame Devidas Kapikad,
was well appreciated by the audience.
On 17th December the concluding ceremony of the Silver
Jubilee was presided by Pramod Madwaraj, President, Dakshina
Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha. In his talk he said Mogaveera
youths have turned themselves to be the role models for society by
their social activities and he offered Rs. 50,000 for crematorium
which is planned by by Mogaveera Yuvaka Sangha.

were present on the stage.
V.L Roche, President Vidyabhivardhini Sangha, Barkur, was
felicitated in recognition for his services of a lifetime for the
betterment of society.
Various cultural programmes by the students
and a comedy play Dattu Putra by Mooru mutthu
group Kundapur, directed by Sathish Pai, Kundapur kept the
audience glued to their seat.

Carol and Rolbin, grand father of Rania, passed away on 20th
December.
Funeral
cortege leaves residence at 4.pm pn 21st December to the church of
St.Peter, Barkur for mass followed by burial.

Annual
Feast of St Peter's Church Barkur
The annual feast of St Peter's church, Barkur, was celebrated on
Wednesday December 17.St.Peter's Association (Barkur) Mumbai, one
of the prominent associations among the Mangalorean associations
in Mumbai were the tarditional "Pirjenths" for this annual affair.
Rev Henry D Souza, Bishop of Bellary was the main celebrant of
festal Eucharistic Mass who was welcomed by St Peter's Association
Pirjenths and parish council vice president Herald D Souza and B.
Shantharama Shetty, President of the Barkur Grama Panchayath at
the city bus stand and taken in a grand and coleful procession to
the church, joined by hundreds of parishioners. Honorary candles
were distributed to the sponsors of annual feast.
St Peter's parish priest Fr Remegeius Aranha, Kallianpur deanery
forane Fr Marcel Saldanha, Fr Antony Fernandes, Fr Mark Gonsalves
and other priests joined the bishop in offering the festal Mass.
St Peter's Association (Barkur) Mumbai, felicitated bishop Fr
Henry D Souza by garlanding a flower bouquet and offering
mementoes during the stage programme held later.Incidentally,
Barkur is only parish served by Rev.Henry D'Souza as an assisitant
Parish Priest soon after his ordination.
Bishop Fr Henry D Souza also released the much awaited devotional
CD of choir master Eric Soans and hymnal of St Peter's
Association at the same occasion.
The vespers were held on Tuesday December 16 evening with a
procession of St Peter's statue at the church compound.
Kallianpur St Joseph's High School head master Fr Vijay Lobo and
Kallianpur deanery priests including hundreds of parishioners were
present at the ceremony.

SPA 20th Anniversary
The annual feast of
Barkur church and celebrations pertaining to the 20th anniversary
of the formation of St Peter's Asssociation (Barkur) Mumbai, are
being organized in the Barkur church premises on Tuesday December
16 and the next day.
Several programmes
were held as part of the celebrations on Tuesday. A function held
on the occasion was presided over by Fr Remigius C M Aranha,
parish priest of St Peter's Church Barkur. Parish council vice
president Herald D'Souza and Irene Pais, secretary were present.
Archie Furtado dwelt
on how the Association was formed by a few interested people and
how they rallied people around to the cause for which the
association was formed. He informed that the Association was the
first and the biggest under Mangalore diocese. In clear words, he
brought back the memories of the Association's early days, before
the eyes of the gathering.
Vincent D'Almeida
explained in detail about the progress the Association achieved
during its initial years after getting over the teething troubles.
He put the five aims of the Association as providing hostel
facility for the Barkurian students living in Mumbai, providing
scholarship to the poor students, development of church in Barkur,
holding of Konkani programmes and holding career guidance
programmes. He said that the Association has stood for the values
it cherished and is happy to have come thus far and serving the
community well.
Ivan Carvalho,
secretary of the Association explained the growth of the
Association during the last 10 years. He said that the Association
was registered under the Maharashtra state government rules three
years ago. He also went on to explain the experiences of meeting
with people, who were all benefitted from the Association, etc.,
Carvalho said, that the next item on the agenda of the
Association, was to start an English medium school in Barkur and
to build a home for the aged.
The Association
felicitated Herald D'Souza, parish council vice president,
secretary Irene Pais, apart from Ivan Rebello, Peter Furtado and
Rolph Monteiro, members of the St Peter's Association who are also
servants of Maharashtra Government. Kishore Gonsalves(Kishu Barkur)
and Erick Soans were also felicitated. Gurkars of the association,
Simon Suares from Halekody, Joseph D'Souza from Hanehalli, Victor
D'Souza from Hosala Rosary, Dolphy D'Lima from Hosala St Lawrence,
Patrick D'Slmeida from Kachoor, Frederick D'Souza from Kudru and
Zita Fernandes from Nagarmatt were also honoured. Fr Rememigius C
M Aranha and Association president Richard Carvalho honoured them.
Richard Carvalho
delivered the welcome address. Erick Carvalho proposed vote of
thanks. Atony Gonsalves, treasurer of the Association, secretary
Irene Pais, vice president Herald D'Souza, Richard Tauro and other
members were present at the dais.
