Parish Day Celebrated at Barkur

Annual Parish Day of The Church of St.Peter, Barkur celebrated on 31st May. The celebration started at 3.30 pm with the high mass concelebrated by the Parish Priest Rev.Fr.R.C.M. Aranha, Rev.Fr.Marcel Saldanha, Vicar Vara, Kallainpur and Rev.Fr.Vinod Lobo, Principal, Milagres High School, Kallainpur along with all the parishioners followed by sumptuous snacks and tea shared and enjoyed by all.

Later the whole parish gathered at "Souharda" , the Parish Hall, for an evening of entertainment presented by the parishioners of various wards. Rev.Fr.Vinod Lobo, Principal, Milagres High School, Kallainpur was the chief guest for the stage programme, presided over by Rev.Fr.R.C.M. Aranha. Gurkars of all the wards were present on the stage accompanied by Herald D'Souza , Vice President and Irene Pais, Secretary.

Almost all parishioners actively took part in the various songs, skits and dance items and enjoyed them wholeheartedly. Eugine Quadros compered the programme welcomed in the beginning. Herald D'Souza , Vice President proposed the vote of thanks.

Baptist D'Souza, (92 yrs) , Husband of Late Annie D'Souza, Former Gurkaar of Nagermutt Ward, Barkur,  Father of Grace/Henry Pinto, Richard, Herald D'Souza (Vice President, Parish Council, Barkur/Shaila, Grandfather of Vanitha/Vijay Furtado (USA), Vandana/Kenneth Montheiro, (USA),  Harshitha and Shobitha passed away on 01/05/2009 at their residence.

"Mogachi Aproop Ghadi" a nostalgic evening by The Expressions

Once again, The Expressions, a group of like minded people formed to promote quality entertainment, struck one more triumphant chord with an unique evening presented at Souharda, the parish hall of St.Peter's Church, Barkur. Keeping up with their tradition of giving something different every time, The Expressions took the audience to a journey through the  memory lane  with select golden old Konkanni melodies sung to the finest by its members and guest artists. The humorous skits enacted by veteran comedians of the group kept the audience glued to the seat throughout the show.

Started with The Expressions prayer song at 7.00 pm sharp followed by the traditional welcome by its president Denis Rodrigues, Airody, Sasthan, the first song of the evening "Flavia" was presented by Praveen Carvalho and group, followed by "Thujevin" by Shaila D'Souza, nee D'Silva. The next  nostalgic two hours with superb numbers like "Mhaka Novro mello Ghatagar", "Philomena" "Angela" "Saanj Jaalire" " Shimti Mhaji Sosdhun" "Voiylya Malbaar"  by Priayal, Jasmine, Eric, Kishoo, Naveen, Sushma,Stenita and others took the audience through a roller coaster ride of mixed emotions. Music Maestro Gladson Ravindra of Thururutthutthu fame, who provided excellent support music tracks was called upon the stage and was introduced to the audience. The Expressions veterans Alwyn Andrade, Stephen Lewis, Prakash Shetty enacted the rib tickling comedy skits with apt support from Gretta Lewis, Sujatha Andrade, Zeeta Gonsalves , Cyprian Pinto, Mervin Quadras and others kept the audience asking for more.

Eric Soans, General Secretary of The Expressions conducted the proceedings of the evening with his unique style and Irene Cardoza proposed the vote of thanks. Two mesmerizing hours of sheer delight came to an end at 9.00 pm sharp with a thunderous applause by the audience with evergreen "Mukar Mukar Chol" by Praveen and the group.
