Ganesha at Ranganakeri Barkur

As every year this year too Ganesha Fetsival is being celebrated at Barkur at Shri Rama Mandira, Athula Yuvaka Mandala, Heradi and Shettigar Industries at Ranganakeri.

Rev.Fr. RCM Aranha, Parish Priest, St. Peter's Church, Barkur, along with Vice President, Herald D'Souza and others visited the Ganeshothsava Celebrations at Shettigar Industries, Ranganakeri and wished Mr. Shettigar and group for the festivities.

We are awaiting more pictures from Shri Pattabhi Ramachandira Temple and Heradi Ganeshothsava, and thank Dr.Manoj D'Lima for his updates and pictures.

Like the father so the son and grandsons.............

That is a Bass, caught by 8 year old Griffin Fernandes, son of Ashutosh Fernandes, grandson of Dr. Gabriel Fernandes, on 7th August, 2009.  It is still fresh.   (It will take three days to go stale, just like any guest, invited or otherwise.)Isn’t it amazing? Who says people don’t pass down their genes?  By now, the Barkuronline.com readers know that Gabriel and his brothers used to catch fish in Barkur rivers, or in ponds, almost to depletion!

Once, a fish that jumped over the net fell right in Gabriel’s mouth head in.  Can you believe, he just closed his mouth, and never let go of it, even though the fish tail was thrashing his face from ear to ear! Just the other day he told me that when he was about 10 years old, he and his grandfather had been chhoodi night fishing. A large crab got under his leg, and the crab almost chewed his toes off.  But Gabriel did not lift his leg at all. Grandfather had to go under water, to break the tentacles, and thus freed Gabriel.  But the pain, he still remembers!  Such and many are the joys of fishing, to know the thrill, one has to experience it.

Well, the trait is passed on to his son and to his grand sons.  Gabriel, instead of buying toys like assembling airplanes or race cars, or giving microscopes, or star gazing binoculars, buys fishing rods for his son and three grandsons, Griffin 8, Jaxon 6, and Dagen 4 year olds, respectively, every year as Christmas presents.  But it is worth he says, the boys drag their parents to fish every weekend, they get the fresh air, sufficient exercise, and fresh fish not for meals alone, but as snack especially for grandpa Gabriel to gulp down an occasional Johny Walker!  Griffin is also in Baseball special team, and an all rounder player.  Needless to say, they are good in academic studies too.

Do you see the guy with two fish?  Gabriel or James would have looked like him, wearing the amicable security royal blanket, still catching fish, had they not left the crab basket!    I hope, Helen is not bragging with St. Peter how to catch fish with a 21st century reel!
