Finally a Public restroom for the Public from the Public
Now Barkur can boast of a public restroom, as it was
inaugurated recently, thanks to the initiative of few concerned citizens of
Barkur. As promised to
www.barkuronline.com when we met him to gather the
details for Personality of the Month (POM), Taluk Panchayath member
Satheesh Poojari
took this task personally and completed it in record time with the personal
finance from the self, MLA Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty and the donations from the
public at a cost of Rs.75000

Janajagruithi Vedike, Former President of Hanehalli Panchayath, B.Ramananda

The Little Rock Indian School, Brahmavara has emerged as the second overall
champions in the CBSE Class VII Athletic Meet organized by Hyderabad Public
School, Hyderabad, recently.
In
under 19 category, Janardhan H S, Class XI stood first in 1,500 and 800 metres
race, while Pavan Gaurav R, Class XI stood second in 400 mts race with Karthik
M, Class XI stood third in high jump.
In
under 16 category Shishira S Shetty, Class IX stood first, second and third,
respectively in 800 mtrs, 4X400 relay and 1,500 metres with Athish B Shetty,
Class X bagging first in long jump and second in 4X100 and 4X400 relay and Shaik
Mohammad Khazar, Class X bagging second in 100 mts, 4X100 and 4X400 relay and
third in triple long jump. Glan Stalin D’Souza, Class X and Shanthanu Rathnakar,
Class IX won second in 4X100 and 4X400 relay and 4X100 relay, respectively.
In
under 14 category, Vedant Praveen Shetty, Class VIII won second place in 200 mts
and third in long jump with Shalom Aureole Britto, Class VII also bagging third
place in long jump.
Further, Janardhan H S, Pavan Gaurav R, Shaik Mohammad Khasar, Athish B Shetty,
Shishira S Shetty and Vedant Praveen Shetty are selected for national level meet
to be held at Kottayam, Kerala.
Maryknoll High School, Barkur students excel in sports
Laxmi and Karthik
Department of Public Education, Brahmavar, held a Taluk level sport in Sharada
High School Cherkadi, on 28th & 29th October 2010. Kumari
Laxmi of Maryknoll High School won first place in Triple jumping, second place
in Long jump, second place in 200 Meter race. Karthik won the second place in
Javelin throw, second place in Hammer throw, Vinutha Pinto won the first place
in Discus throw, Nayaz won the second place in Shot-put throw and Sushma Stefy
Dais won second place in Discus throw. Kumari Laxmi, Karthik, and Vinutha pinto
are selected for District level sports.

In the District level sports held at Government Pre- University College, Kumari
Laxmi, repeated the success by winning first place in Triple jumping, second
place in Long jump, and second place in 200 Meter race. Karthik won second place
in Javelin throw, and second place in Hammer throw. Both of them are selected
for the state level sports to be held on November 19th to 22nd
2010 at Davanagere

Grand felicitation to Rajyothsava Awardee B Shantharam Shetty
A grand public felicitation programme was held on behalf of the citizens of
Barkur to the first ever Karnataka Rajyothsava Award winner B. Shantharama
Shetty.
Barkur Shantharam Shetty bagged
this award under the sports section for exclusively promoting the ancient rural
sport of Bison Racing, popularly known as Kambala in the region.
Leading landlord, agriculturist, political leader and PWD contractor, B.
Shantharama Shetty participates in as many as 50 Kamabalas every year and
maintains two pairs of racing bison at his home. Participating in these races
was a family tradition from his father Umashankar Shetty’s time. From the last
12 years B.Shantharama Shetty introduced many renovations in the sports to
popularise the game and his pair of bison have won championship for 3
consecutive years from the year 2003.
B.Shantharama Shetty served as the President of Udupi District BJP party and
lead the Barkur Panchayath many times as its President and was the youngest
president of Barkur Panchayath as he was elected at the age of 24 years. He is
the current President of Barkur Vidyabhivardhini Sangha and also served as the
member of Udupi Taluk Panchayath and actively involved in many associations in
Barkur.
B.Shantharama Shetty along with his family members were brought in a grand
procession from their residence to a beautiful decorated stage at Kalchappara
Barkur. Lot of fans of Mr Shetty accompanied the procession which was very
colorful with various tableaus representing folklore.
MLA Haladi Shrinivasa Shetty presided over the programme and Minister Of higher
education Dr.V.S. Acharaya was the chief guest. MP D.V. Sadananda Gouda, Kota
Shrinivasa Poojari, B. Bhujanaga Shetty delivered the congratulatory messages.
Rev.Fr.RCM Aranha, Parish Priest Barkur blessed Shantharam Shetty and the
family. Janab Abdul Hameed Musliyaar , Industrialist Anand C.Kunder,
B.Shrinivasa Shettigar, President, Felicitation Committee, B.Sudhakar Rao,
K.Sathyanarayana Udupa, President Rotary Club, Barkur were present at the stage.

Vehicles blessed at Barkur Church
Keeping up with the Deepavali
Tradition of Ayudha Pooja, vehicles of the Barkur Parishioners were blessed on
Sunday 7th October after the first mass. Started 3 years ago, this ritual has
become an annual affair popular with vehicle owners of Barkur and gives a sense
of belonging and almost all the vehicles in the parish are blessed on the same
day.

Barkur Shantharam Shetty
