Billava Samaja honors bright students

Billava Seva Sangha (Regd), Shivagiri Kshetra, Barkur, recently honoured the bright students who secured more than 75 % of marks in the public examinations of 7th  and 10th standard and distributed books to the poor billava students of 14 Primary Schools and 6 high schools coming under its jurisdiction.

Miss Nayana of Zilla Panchayath School, Yedthadi with 95.50 %, Miss Divya of National Higher Primary School, Hanehalli with 94.67 % from the Primary section and Mr. Veerendra of Mary knoll High School with 82.56 %, Miss Vasanthi of B. M. M. High School, Kuradi with 80.80 % from the high school sections received special scholarships. About 150 poor billava students have received free books on that day.

President of the association Mr. Jagannath Poojary, local Panchayath President Mrs. Bharathi Kamath, Mr. B. Narayana Poojary, Mr. Sadashiva Poojary, Mr. Jaru Poojary and Mr. Sudhakar Rao were present during the occasion. While the secretary of the association Mr.  Vasanth Poojary Champady welcomed the gathering, Sri Kumar Bennekudru proposed vote of thanks. Mr. Dinesh Kambalabettu and Mr. Janardhan Uddalgudde conducted the proceeding.

Successful Pavada Rahasya Bayalu At Barkur.

As published in our website earlier, Pavada Rahasya Bayalu, a unique programme to create the awareness against the blind beliefs prevailing in our society, organised by Mr. Vijay , Barkur was a roaring success as jam-packed crowd at Gurudeva Bhavana at Barkur, witnessed Prof. Narendra Naik, as he materialised the holy ash from the thin air,  performed Psychic surgery, sewed lemons to hands of laymen,  made children to hold the burning camphor in their hand and made  them eat it too! He explained all these ‘supernatural’ phenomenon with simple science and proved there is nothing supernatural about these so called divine power.

The programme was presided by Barkur Rotary  President Bhojaraj Shetty, and  guests of honor were Mr.  Narayana Poojari , President of Billawa Sangha Barkur,  Venkataramana Aithal,  Principal Govt. College Barkur, Bhalakrishna Parkala, Secretary Vicharavaadi Vedike Udupi.

Mr. Vijay Suvarna (organizer of the programme) warmly welcomed the guests and audience and also expressed  his gratitude  to everyone who were instrumental for the success of the programme. Mr. B. Sudhakar Rao of Hanehalli School, Barkur, compeered the stage programme.

A get together has been arranged at the Community Hall of St. Anthony's Church , Sastan on Saturday, 9th August 2003 at 11.30 am for the inauguration of  Late Mr. John Furtado Memorial Fund. Rev Fr. Vincent Martis will inaugurate the function to be presided over by Mr. K . Jyaprakash Hegde , MLA. Ln A.S.hegde , President Lions Club, Bramavar-Barkur;  Ln. B. Seetharam Shetty ,   Retd. Principal,  Barkur; Rev.Fr. Johnson, Parish Priest, St Thomas Syrian church, Sastan have consented to grace the occasion as guests.  Mrs. Dorothy Furtado and the fund committee extend their warm welcome to all the well-wishers and the visitors of the site.

“BARKUR – BRAHMMAVAR LIONS CLUB” WITH NEW OULOOK

During the recently held meeting at Hotel Mother Palace Barahmmavar, the ‘Lions Club of Barkur – Brahmmavar’ selected new band of Office bearers. Mr. Sadashiva Hegde has taken over the charge as President from the outgoing chief Mr. B.Srinivasa Shetty. Mr. Joseph Banz of Sastan will be the new Secretary and Mr. Prabhakar H.Kunder will hold the post of Treasurer and Mr. Rajeev Alva as tail-twister. Newly appointed Mr. Hegde outlined Clubs priorities and disclosed Lions Eye Hospital will be completed by this year.

At the meeting Regional President Mr.A.Sridhar Shetty, Secretary Mr. Robert Furtado, Rev.Fr. Vincent Martis were also present, and gave their suggestions and promised all support. While congratulating the new office bearers, Barkur.com wish the Lions and their projects all success in coming days.

Protest by ECFB

Under the banner of newly formed "Electricity Consumers' Forum, Barkur" agriculturists staged a demonstration and protest before the KEB  (Presently MESCOM) office at Brahmavar on Saturday, 2nd August at 10.00 a.m. and paid the electricity bills for their agriculture pump- sets as per the calculations made by Bharathiya Kisan Union of Udupi District. The electricity consumers of Kachur village have  submitted a complaint for enquiry for the non co-operation of certain departmental staff through this forum and the Junior Engineer of MESCOM has agreed to submit the official reply within 30 days.

The President of Bharathiya Kisan Union, Udupi Dist and Convener of Electricity Consumers' Forum, Nejar along with the office bearers of Barkur unit were present on the occasion and participated in the bi-partite talks with the officials of MESCOM.
