Progress About the Ring Road

The issue of the "Ring Road", to connect the Halekody road to the Brahmavr Barkur road,  was raised by the leaders during he Silver Jubilee Celebrations of ICYM with Mr Vinay Kumar Sorake, Local M.P., who in turn assured of the finacial help, could not proceed due to the non co-operation of some of the land lords whose land is to be sacrificed for the purpose of the road. The youth leaders are making all their efforts,  time and again they remind the authorities about the need of this road and also meet the beneficiaries so that a pressure group be created and the demand may be fulfilled.

On Wednesday, 11th  September in the leadership of Mr Alwyn D'Almeida, President of ICYM a group of people met the Udupi Zilla Panchayath President, Mr Bhujanga Shett and appraised of the situation and explained him the developments. He assured the group that he will try his level best and see that the work begins during this summer. He will meet the local leader Mr Shantharam Shetty in this regard and with the help of the locals a solution will be found out.

Shocking shop breaking at Brahmavar!

It was a shock of lifetime for the two Jewellers at Brahmavar operating at the 2 adjacent buildings in the busy commercial complexes near Brahmavar Bus Stand. It was just a morning like other for Mr. Suresh Acharya, Barkur, son of well-known jeweller from Barkur, Mr. Rudrayya Acharya , as he came to his shop at the Ruchira Complex . He was hoping for a brisk business, as it is the Ganesha Chathurthi season. But the sight of the broken shutter and collapsible security gate taken him aback.

The thieves struck Jyothi Jewelers in Ruchira Complex and Shri Laxmi Jewellers in the adjacent Max Complex on 2nd September night and it is believed that they used the hydraulic jacks used to rig up the motor vehicles at garages to break open the shutters and security gate.

A large crowd was gathered in the morning around the 2 complexes as the Police Officers along with Dog Squad arrived at the scene of action. More and more people were seen, as a theft of this magnitude was never heard in the vicinity in the past.

It is estimated that  the jewellary worth Rs. 5 lakhs from the Shri Laxmi jewelers as the thieves managed to lift the safety locker itself from the shop. They were not so lucky with Jyothi jewelers as they could not break or lift the safety locker from there , but they did manage to carry silver ornaments worth Rs. 1 lakh.

Investigations are in progress as Udupi District ACP Miss Roopa Divakar visited the crime scene and took charge of the proceedings.
