Brahmavar: Special Tahsildar Appointed
The formation of Brahmavar taluk by carving it out of the present
Udupi taluk could be a reality in the near future. In preparation
thereof, a special tahsildar has already been appointed for
Brahmavar and is likely to take charge in a few days. An order to
this effect has been received at the office of the Udupi deputy
commissioner.
It has been a long-cherished aspiration of the people of this area
to have a separate taluk formed. Byndoor also is regarded as a fit
case for a new taluk. Hundekar and another commission have
already recommended the new taluks. However, there have been
conflicting reports from the state government sources. While it
was said that, as part of austerity measures, no new taluks would
be formed, special tahsildars are being appointed in such places.
Sources say that these appointments are made to relieve the
pressure of work at the taluk centres and to mollify the
agitating people and that actually no new taluks will be formed
until next year's assembly election.
