Rotary Club at Saaibarakatte

A new Rotary club comprising 30 members was incepted at Saibarakatte under the sponsorship of Barkur Rotary Club. Mr. Yadthadi Niranjan Hegde, Chartered President of the new club presided ovethe function.

Mr.B.M.Bhat, Asst. Governor, Rotary International District 3180, Rotarian Staney Pais, Barkur, Mr. H. Govinda shetty, Mr. Shedikodlu Vitthal Shetty, M. Madhava Hegde, Secretary, Saibarakatte Rotary were the chief guests for the function.

Flood Light Shuttle Badminton Tournament

Skanda Friends , Barkur  is organizing a  Flood light shuttle badminton tournament on December 27th from 4 pm onwards at National Pre University ground. Those who are interested in participating are requested to register with oraganisers. The tournament will be held for both singles and doubles category with attractive prizes for the first and second place winners.

Obituary

Mr.Satheesh Kamath, aged 42, S/O Mr. Nagesh Kamath,  expired on 19th December after a short term illness. A popular trader at the Car Street Barkur, Mr. Kamath left behind a grieving wife Sangeetha and children Ashwini and Akshaya.

NSS Camp at Bennekudru School

The valedictory function of the Annual Special Camp of the National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of SMS College, Brahmavar was recently held at Government Primary School at Bennekudru. Vice Principal of SMS college presided over the function.

Retired Principal of NJC, Barkur, Mr. Seetharam Shetty, Mr. Govindraj Hegde, President Varamballi Grama Panchayath, Mr. Bhojaraj Shetty, President , Rotary Club, Barkur, Mr. Bhaskara Kotian , Yoga Teacher were the chief guests.

Headmaster of the Govt.School Bennekudru, Mr. Balakrishna Shetty thanked the students of the NSS unit for the services and the facilities provide for the school during the camp. Retired headmaster Mr. Monappa Shetty narrated the importance of Bennekudru with historical and mythological backgrounds in his valedictory address.

Kumari Meghna, Milita, Gagana and Satheeshwari walked away with prizes for the Healthy Baby Contest oraganised by the camp members. Mr. Lakshmeesha and Miss Asha Kumari bagged the Best Participants award. Prizes were distributed to the other winners of the various competitions held in the camp. NSS Camp Officer , Dr.K.B.Shivatharak evaluated the activities of the camp.

Mr. Ashok welcomed and Mr. Lohith compered the programme.

NJC gets grant from Rotary Foundation

“Students have to concentrate more on educational activities than T.V. and other entertainment media for a better future” said Mr. Sooryaprakash  Bhat , District Governor,  Rotary Dist. 3180.

He was speaking on the occasion of handing over Drinking Water and Toilet Facilities provided To National Pre University College Barkur , built at a cost of Rs.1.88 lakh, under the ‘Matching Grant Project’ of Rotary Club, Brahmavar with Rotary Foundation, San Antonio, Oak Hills.

Rotary Asst. Governor Mr. B.M.Bhat,  Mr. V.L. Roche, President, Barkur Vidyabhivardhini Sangha, and Mr. K . Venkataraman Aithal, Principal, were the chief guests of the function. Mr. N.R.Shettigar, President, Grant Committee introduced the project to the audience.

Mr. Jaikishn, President , Rotary, Brahmavar, welcomed and Secretary Mr.Jagadeesh Shetty proposed vote of thanks. Lecturer Mr. Rama Bhat Sajangadde conducted the proceedings.

Priya. L. Roche, D/o Mr. Frank J.B. Roche & Mrs Leena Roche  from  Brahmavar, student of Karavali College of Mangalore, secured Ist Rank in the B.Sc. Fashion Designing Degree Examination of the Mangalore University held in April 2003. She had secured 2199 out of 3000 marks. Now she is doing her internship in Triburg Consultants Private Ltd Company at Bangalore.

"Swagatha Gopura " to our Barkur

The “Swagatha Gopura” (Welcome Tower)  of Barkur Shri Kalikamba Temple, built near the All India Radio (AIR) station at Brahmavar, was inaugurated by Shri Gurushiva Sujnana  Moorthi  Maha Swamiji  of Sujnana Prabhu Peeth , Aremadana Halli, Hassan.

Building of Swagatha Gopura to the Historical Barkur by the Vishwakarma Community  is commendable job said  Mr. Vinaya Kumar Sorake, M.P. He was expressing his opinion in a formal programme oraganised at the Shri Kalikamba Temple premise.  He promised to try his level best to convince at the parliament members  to declare the  Vishwakarma Day as a holiday.

Contradictory to the MP’s promise, Mr. Jayaprakash Hegde, MLA, who was present at the occasion, said that the holidays are having a negative impact on the National Economy. So he advised the community to have their day declared as Working Day and help the government.

Donors , Mr. Sundar Acharya, Ghatkopar, Mr. Sheshakumar , son of  Mr. Alevoor Prabhakar Acharya, Contractor Uddalgudde Gangadhara Acharya , and Architect Mr. Umesh Acharya , Dharmasthala  and the other donors were facilitated and blessed by swamiji on behalf of the temple authorities.  B. "Kannik Baall"  Title for Anirudh Sean

Anirudh Sean Gonsalves  Barkur, won the KANNIK BAALL-2003 title ,  in the Children's Photo Contest oraganised by the Kannik fortnightly on the occasion of Children's Day celebrations, and featured in the cover page in the latest issue of the magazine .

Three years old Anirudh,  son  of  Marina and Kishore Gonsalves  selected for this title by eminent photographers panel lead by ace photographer Yajna, from above 280 entries for the contest and entitled to avail 50 buffet lunch plates from M/S Santhosh Caterers, Bantwal. It may be recalled here that Sean was one of the  10 winners in the Konkan Baby contest organised by the popular website www.daijidubai.com, last year.

"Mythri" , The Parish Hall Inaugurated at Sastan.

Bishop of Mangalore diocese Rt Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza formally inaugurated the Sanstan Church Parish Hall 'Mythri' on Saturday.  Vinaya Kumar Sorake, MP of Udupi constituency was also present on the occasion.

Speaking on this occasion, Bishop called upon all to forget hatred, greed, gealousy and live together with values of love, harmony and brotherhood.  Our life should be a leading light to others, he said.

On his chief guest's address, Vinaya Kumar Sorake said that Christian educational institutions are the ones who are responsible for the quality education in DK and Udupi districts.

Legislator Jayaprakash Hegde also spoke.  Leaders should work towards facilitating government subsidies and grants to common people, he insisted.  He assured government aid to Sastan Hall from government.

Kundapur Vicar General Fr JB Crasta, Sastan Syrian Church Priest Fr Johnson, Saligram Panchayat President Rafiuddin, Pandeshwar Panchayat President Mrs Susheela Poojari, St Anthony's Church Parish Council Vice-President Robert Furtado were also present.

Fr Vincent Martis, Parish Priest of Sastan was honoured by the Bishop on this occasion.  Robert Furtado welcomed the gathering.  Albert Picardo and Shalet Lewis compered.  William Saldanha proposed vote of thanks.

The ground floor consists of a mini hall with a seating capacity of 500 people. The top floor is a full pledged programme hall of 10,000 square feet with all modern amenities consisting of well designed  stage catering to all kinds of programmes and open to be used by the general public.
